180E, 440Q and I had a very old (almost 40 year old) Bernina I gave to my sister

by Calleen
(Titusville, FL)

I have owned a Bernina since the early 70's and wonder why anyone would buy anything but a Bernina.

In 1998 I bought the new 180E computerized machine and I love it. My old machine went to my sister and is still working like a dream.

Several years ago I added a 440Q (without the embroidery, my 180 has it) and there is not enough praise I can give for the BSR.

I have owned a 130 which my sister now has and I also own two 2000DE's and a cover stitch machine. Why would anyone own anything but a Bernina?

You Have Been Very Fortunate
by: Anonymous

Count your blessings with your Berninas. Not everyone ia as fortunate. As of this writing my 200e is in the shop again because it is running HOT and the stitching is off by 1/2 inch on my designs.
Broke down again in the middle of a long embroidery run. Another week without my machine.
So feel good about your Perfect Bernina.

Bernina-not recommended
by: Anonymous

I love my Bernina-180 Artista sewing/embroidering machine, but I find it increasingly difficult to get support. There is one dealer 1 1/2 hours from my home-she is the closest. When I stop in to ask questions or see about taking a class, there is this urgency on her part to get me to trade my machine as "it is outdated."

Sewing machines that cost thousands of dollars should NOT be disregarded just because something bigger and better is out there. I love my machine and want to continue to use it. Are other dealers this way?

I would NOT recommend a Bernina for this reason and for the reason of such limited ability to find a dealer who knows about Berninas.

The machine itself is great, the support comes with MUCH PRESSURE TO SPEND MONEY.

Bernina Artista 180e used
by: Cheri

I purchased it on ebay. I do not know if it is a good choice yet. I wonder if anyone can tell me how I can find the manufacture date of the machine and how many hours are on it?

Bernina 180E

I love sewing on the Bernina 180. It has so many wonderful functional and decorative stitches, and feet available for everything imaginable. The Bernina 180 is a wonderful machine with or without the embroidery.

Bernina Artista 180 Sewing and Embroidery
by: Anonymous

Bernina is number one with me and I have owned a lot of different brands. It is made with steel components and feet, instead of plastic and that means a lot to me. I have made hundreds of quilts and teach quilting and needle arts professionally.

The Berninas are real workhorses. I have never known anyone to go to a different brand once they own a Bernina. As they say, "Nothing sews like a Bernina - nothing!!"

Bernina 180 and 730
by: Suzanne

I had a Bernina 180 for about 8 years and loved it soooooo much that I bought a Bernina 730 two years ago. I love it too, and have never had a problem with it. I have to say tho, that using a machine like this is much dependent on the user.

It took me a long time, even with almost daily use, to get the result I wanted with my 180. I was willing to consider that I had to learn to use the machine, and learn what it would do and under what conditions. I was a fairly experienced sewer when I purchased the 180 - but it still took a long time to really know what tensions to use and what stabilizer, etc., etc. If you love to sew there really is nothing like a Bernina! Can't explain the light problems tho ????
