1888 Singer treadle/crank leather Machine

My husband picked up a OLD singer machine @ a yard sale. The nearest we can figure by it serial # is its about 1888.

He cleaned it up & it seems to be in fine shape but there is no modern needles that are long enough to pick up the bobbin thread. The timing seems fine & it looks like it would work if we could find a needle.

I also have a regular treadle machine in fine shape but it is a 1914 & it will take the regular sewing machine needles. Other then those I am a Viking girl.

The good old days. Singer.
by: Jeane-M Turner

That was the days when they made good sewing machines with less to go wrong and reliable service follow up. Nowadays far more sophistication but less after sales care. We need both.

Needle Information
by: Anonymous

Hello,
I would guess your leather machine would use a heavier and longer needle, somewhat like used in a commercial upolestry Singer machine.

Here is a link to a good site that lists info for lots of machines.

Also you can contact them and I bet they can help you find the right needle.

Singer Industrial 16-88 NEW
by: Josh

I have been given an industrial singer machine. The plate reads 16-88. I need help putting on the belt. It is missing the long belt. Also, I may need parts for it. I know the motor runs but the bobbin case is rusted. I can't get the metal plate off to see what the lower feeding teeth look like. I will know much more once I get the belt in place. Please feel free to e-mail me at josh5780@ymail.com
