Antique White Sewing Machines
A Reflection of Their Journey to Creation

Antique White sewing machines can speak so much of what the company had gone through for over hundred years.

Yet they remain simple because they made sure that the things they were known for before can still be seen and felt by the newer generation of sewers and home owners.

Where Vintage White Sewing Machines Started

It was around the middle part of the 1800s that the White Sewing Company decided to produce their own line of sewing machines.

They moved to Ohio so they can be much closer to their target market and suppliers. It was also around this time that one of the earliest antique White sewing machines were sold at a very measly price of $10.

This was called as New England. It was extremely small, and perhaps could be considered as more of a toy old White sewing machine or a miniature. It only measured six by nine inches, respectively. It was so small that you could grasp it with your palm.

It was only in 1876 that they decided to go mainstream and started to produce various products that were meant to compete with the more popular ones, such as those of Singer.

During the last 20 years of the 1800s, White focused on creating antique White sewing machines that can perform a variety of artistic functions, such as braiding, tucking, as well as cording. They also released the first batch of hand sewing machines, which were portable and are covered with durable materials like wood.

The Antique White Rotary Sewing Machines

Meanwhile, when the twentieth century was basically new, the company opted to release another antique White sewing machine.

It was that contains a rotary mechanism. However, it was during the 1930s, the Depression years, that the organization went hi-tech when it came to their products.

Rather than settling for the mere rotary antique White sewing machine, they chose to add electrical components into their sewing machines until they were able to design what could be labeled as the first rotary electric sewing equipment.

These were then incorporated to a number of classes about the art of sewing as well as in creating dresses, perhaps in response to the pressing need of people to get a job or set up their own business.

The White Featherweight

Moreover, it was in the 1930s that they introduced something completely different into the market. Known as the Featherweight, this antique White sewing machine was everything you could not expect from any other sewing equipment at that time.

Just when everybody had gone ebony for color, White adopted the use of magnesium alloy. On the other hand, they contained a sewing light, which basically guided sewers in more delicate projects or when they're going to use the machine during late nights.

Most of all, the Featherweight antique White sewing machine was very lightweight-it only weighed less than 20 pounds. You wouldn't have any problem keeping it away even at the top of the stairs. You could also work on your sewing tasks in any portion of your home.

Modern Times

Right after the war, there was the sudden rise for consumer items, such as the sewing machines. Garment business was in full bloom again, and they need something that could keep up with the demands while still maintaining the quality their customers were looking for. As a form of answer, those old sewing machines from White manufactured during the decade of 1950s are equipped with zigzag function.

Fast forward to more than 5 decades after, you can see that all White machines are reflections of the constant development of the company.

Every component has been added in response to the changing trends in the market. And if the company can survive Depression and two world wars, it's impossible that they couldn't get through intense competition now.
