Baby Lock Quest machine

by Janice McCay
(Glendora, CA USA)

I am not fully satisfied with the Baby Lock Quest sewing machine. I went out shopping for an Elna or Janome machine. I went to a shop in west Claremont, CA and they had both of those brands but the owner talked me into the Baby Lock. He was a good demonstrator and therefore won me over.

They had a Pfaff embrodery machine, that was a free gift with the purchase. Sounded good to me. He did not tell me and I was new to this field, that I would need a computer to run the embroidery machine and I did not find out until I went to the free class on this machine. The teacher had her laptop and it was at that time I found out I would need a computer.

Second problem was my IMac computer would not work on the machine. By this time I was frustrated about the whole thing. I was told I could come to 5 free classes about my sewing machine. When I got there on the 1st cčass. I found out that this was a class through adult Ed in LaVerne, CA and the teacher was on staff there, all the students but me had been in the same class before so I received very little help, but was told I could repeat the class.

My Baby Lock Quest machine is too heavy for me to handle so either my Husband had to go with me or one of the girls in the shop had to help. me in. the needle threader does not work for me and they have tried to adjust in on 2 occasions. Sewing in the ditch is impossible and there is not a foot for that project as there is for many other brands.

If I could, I would take this machine out to a shop and trade it in for an
Elna for a Janome. Incidentally I had my old Elna for 38 years. It is the greatest.

taken for a lemon
by: helena llewellyn south wales uk

take the machine back to the shop and tell the guy there that the machine is not working properly and get your money back. it should be still under warranty if you want to keep it and get it fixed. he knows he sold you a dud, so tell him so. you have to stand up and say something otherwise he is just getting away with it. don't let that happen. if need be take your husband with you

Exchange It!
by: Anonymous

I have a BL Espire and the needle threader is great. Exchange your BL and DO NOT accept a repair on your current one. You must have the pressure foot down to thread this machine properly. You'll enjoy your new BL Quest!

baby lock espire model
by: Rosalyn

I am researching for a review regarding Baby Lock Espire model as it was recommended by our local dealer. Do you have any user review for this? I am a beginner and it has lots of function that it confuses me. Would I be better off with a Pfaff expression instead?

Quest by Baby lock worst sewing machine
by: Anonymous

Baby lock Quest...

The worst machine. If you want to do free motion forget it this machine will not work. I feel I was taken I went in and told the fellow that I wanted a sturdy machine to do free motion embroidery and quilting. He demonstrated the machine to me and it seemed to be working well...until i took it home and tried it myself. The thread keeps breaking it skips stitches, On a scale from 1 to 10 I give it a -0

When you go purchase a sewing machine is like purchasing a car all you have is used car salesman that are selling sewing machine and we fall into the trap. Never again will I purchase a quest not work the money.

Disappointed with Baby Lock Quest
by: Anonymous

I also am very disappointed with the quilting aspect of my Baby Lock Quest. I have taken it back several times and ask them to look at and tell me what I am doing wrong. I've tried different threads, needles, speeds and am still so frustrated with the fact that it just is not a quilting machine. When I take it in they make some adjustments and it does a little bit better, but never does what it is suppose to do.

Babylock Quest
by: ncquilter

I purchased the Babylock Quest in Jan 2008, it is the worst sewing machine I have every had. The foot control is hesitant, it takes extra stitches when you stop, and it will not babkstitch in every mode. In other words, precision sewing is out on this machine. I do not like that the throat plate has screws instead of a magnetic clasp or a slide in plate. Last month I was at a national sewing show and stopped by the Babylock booth, I was told "I feel your pain". In my opinion this machine is a true lemon and the company knows it.

Love my Quest Plus
by: Anonymous

The review I read here makes no sense. The reviewer complains that her Mac computer doesn't work with a Pfaff embroidery machine that she bought along with her Babylock Quest Plus. Huh? This has nothing to do with the Quest Plus. She also complains that there is no stitch in the ditch foot for the Quest Plus. Not so! I have it and use it. You can see it on the Baby lock website. One can also use the open toe foot for this. My machine works perfectly. These days, any model can be a lemon or damaged in shipping. I think it is very important to test drive the machine you are buying on the fabrics you use. When you get your machine home, sew out samples of every single stitch it has, put it through it's paces. If you have a problem, take it back promptly. If the dealer doesn't give you satisfaction, then contact the manufacturer.

Baby Lock Qwest Plus big disappointment
by: Anonymous

I have been very disappointed with the Baby Lock Qwest Plus. When I try using the C 22 it sews for awhile, an hour, then the machine slows way down, then stops. It sews about 1 inch then stops again. I have also having a lot of problem with the thread breaking. I so wish I would have bought a Viking Lily or a Elna. If I can't get it fixed I will trade it in, but am hoping the dealer will fix it. The first time I took it in he said the timing was completely off, freom the manufacturer. I wante to get my quilt done this week end, but that won't happen.

babylock quest is a terrible machine for free motion quilting
by: Anonymous

I was told that it was a strudy machine and also was convinced to purchased. The salesperson did free motion quilting and it was a breeze. When I brought the machine home it did not want to work there was an exclamation mark on the display so I returned it. I should not have exchanged I should have returned and purchased a mechanical machine. I have to say that the salesclerk at the sewing machine dealers are in the same category as USED CAR salesman.
