My new Babylock Audrey

My new Babylock Audrey

I've only had the Babylock Audrey - a small, lightweight sewing machine for a week. I bought it to carry with to class or in our RV so I don't have to packup my large Viking.

This Babylock model is not suitable for machine quilting large projects, it's just too small and doesn't have the bells and whistles the fancy machines do. But I bought it for piece work, applique and machine quilting small projects while in class or traveling in our RV.

I've been playing with the Babylock Audrey a bit. I appliqued a piece of felted wool onto another piece of wool. Lovely stitch quality although it's a bit of a pain to have to put the needle down and lift the pressure foot up to turn corners while appliqueing. I guess I'm just used to my bells and whistles Viking. Most big applique projects would be done on my Viking anyway.

The Babylock Audrey sewing machine is basic and easy to learn to use, yet has tons of decorative stitches. At about 11 pounds it's perfect for someone like me who has back problems and just can't manage lugging the heavy machine around any longer.

It comes with a little black carrying case and takes up hardly any room at all. I considered something cheaper, like the Brother machine that Costco offers. But that one was heavier and a little bigger.

My cost was $399 on an 18 month no interest contract. Right up my alley. Oh, did I mention that it's cute as a button?

Hello Audrey
by: Anonymous

I just picked up a Babylock Audry tonight. I have a big dream machine on layaway-- but I know I won't want to lug that to classes or seminars.

My choice came down to either Audrey or a Janome 3160QDC. The QDC has more whistles and bells, but some of the reviews scared me off.

So I went and gave Audrey a whirl in spite of less features. And might I add-- I'm not a "Brother" girl either. But I sat down at this Audrey and began giving it a workout, over six layers of denim like butter. Tested the decor stitches...nice. I think I would actually use them!

Anyway-- my test drive abated any concerns I had about the machines fabric feeding, tension or ease of use. So when the girl told me it was on special for $268, the deal was sealed. I took it.

I don't intend to throw anything heavy at it, but I'm looking forward to learning blocks and patterns at classes without struggle. I can lift the bag and put the strap up on my shoulder like a purse-- it doesn't get any easier than that for on the go.

btw, the bobbin winding post and presser plate are metal! That was an issue to me too as I think plastic in these areas looks 'cheap'..
