Bernina 1000 Designer

by Jerene
(Wisconsin)

I have used the Bernina Designer 1000 almost daily for 20 years. Love it.

I have used it to sew all fabrics and it does very well. My only concern is that it runs so loudly. Even after it is serviced - sounds like it needs oil.

Think I'd like a fancier, more modern model. Bernina makes great sewing machines and I will stay with this brand.

bernina designer 1000
by: Jane Bird

I was visiting my granddaughter and she was given her mother's Bernina sewing machine. I was able to help her thread it and put the bobbin in and sew but we need a instruction book or manual book to help her.

Where can I go to help her get one? Thank you jane Bird

The Bernina Designer 1000 is great
by: Anna

Just a fantastic machine. I have had it since 1992 or 3 and although it's been in a cupboard some of these years... when I get her going, she is sooo easy to use. Why? Because everything IS manual so nothing breaks down.

I can sew through any fabric and am currently making lots of cushion covers with very thick material. My Designer 1000 machine is a dream. Thank you Bernina for such a simple, reliable machine. Anna.

Bernina 1000 sewing machine
by: Mia

I bought my Bernina 1000 sewing machine new many years ago and made three or four hundred ballet costumes the first year I had it.

I have made clothes for my children and now my grandchildren and have never had one minute of trouble with it. It is a simple machine but that is what I wanted.

I was a veteran seamstress when I bought it and have never been disappointed in my choice. I would like to have an embroidery machine at times but would not want that combined with the machine I use to construct garments. I taught my daughter and sons how to sew on this machine.

I have also constructed prom dresses, formal attire, quilt tops and a gillion home dec projects with the Bernina 1000 machine and will use it until I die or give it to my daughter in law, I bought my daughter one, already.

Bernina 1000

I love my Bernina 1000! I've had it for about 20 years. I just take it in for a tune up every two years and voila, I have a reliable and very well made sewing machine. I've been a sewer for 40 plus years and find the only addition I need is a walking foot. I do not do machine embroidery so have no need for those details.

Bernina 1000 Designer
by: Sue

I feel like I need training on the Bernina 1000 Designer machine. Many are advising me to chuck it and get a new one. But I would rather have it properly repaired and learn to use it.

I bought it many years ago and never learned to properly use it. I took it in five years ago for repair (looping underneath, skipping stitches and tight on one side loose on the other type stitches.) because it didn't seem to have major problems. The repair cost 293.00 and some cents. AND the machine never worked when I got it home though it worked in the store. I took it back three times and then gave up!

(Hmm. That's why I'd like to learn to use it properly.)

I just retired in November and would like to start sewing again. I took the Bernina 1000 Designer machine in to a repair shop that seems to know Berninas and seems to be honest. However, I'd like more discussion and information 'around town' first. They are to charge 160.93. Can you advise me about what to do? How do I know who is reliable?

How much should timing and new inside balancing and a new pin cost me for materials and labor? I know that this is limited information and don't expect your answers to be precise.

What info would you need to answer my questions or give some wisdom in this, please? THANK YOU!

Feed dog is not advancing the fabric
by: Anonymous

I am used to using and repairing old machines for my own use. I too have a Bernina 1000 Designer model I have been using it for A LONG TIME only oiling and cleaning have had to be done. I have found that when I use an improper bobbin in any of the old machines they will break the thread and will do large loops under the fabric and not keep the stitch in place.
I was trying to sew on plush fabric when this issue arose. Any suggestions? I have cleaned the bobbin case and feed dog.
