Bernina 1630

by Arlene Wiseman
(Fallbrook, Ca.)

I've had a Bernina 1630 since 1991. Bought it new. My 1630 has been a fantastic machine, I quilt and the machine has been used on a daily basis. I have it serviced every year, and have had few problems.

I bought and am learning a Bernina 820. Have had one class and 7 more to go. That tells you something.

hiya, it's really good to hear of a good machine. the old machines were made much better than today. i have a husqvarna platinum 770, bought 12 years ago. brilliant machine never had a problem with it and have sewn umpteen quilts, cushions, repairs on it. i think they are putting too much technology in them today and overloading them, because the faults on the new machines are outrageous. i have a pfaff 2170, bloody hell, what a nightmare. and had to fight like hell to get it repaired and sorted out. ok now though. kind regards helena

Bernina quality
by: Pauline

Hi there. I also have a Bernina (can't remember the number ) and have had it for over 35 years. It's still in good condition and used regularly. As it was the basic machine, I treated myself to the updated one and again, love it. Agree, the old machines are far superior to the new, technical ones and although I have an embroidery machine, that's all I use it for, as I find my Bernina copes better with heavier work.

Bernina 1630 problems
by: Anonymous

I have the Bernina 1630 sewing machine which is an older model. I use the machine moderately.

The machine stopped working. I brought into one Bernina dealer to have it fixed. It cost me 120.00 they said it was fixed. Well I had to move and with work I didn't use the machine. I go to use the machine and it does not work.

So I bring it to another dealer and he replaces a computer board that one cost me 170.00. I get it back home go and use it and it does not work. Take it back they replace the cord tell me it is going to cost me 80.00 dollars I told them I will not pay another 80.00 for the machine.

I just don't have that kind of money. To keep spending on a machine. They let me have it. I started a project and in the middle of the project the Bernina 1630 machine again quits working.

So in my opinion they don't know how to fix the machines and they charge you way to much to fix them. I am very disappointed in the company.

Bernina 1630
by: Anonymous

I purchased a previously owned Bernina 1630 in 2001. I have had it serviced every year or two and hav enjoyed it immensely. A couple of things that I like about it is that it offers a 9mm stitch width and a serpentine stitch.
