Bernina 530

by Janni
(Ohio)

We bought my Bernina 530 machine 35 years ago used. I have absolutely loved this machine. Only problems I have encountered were caused by abuse. (Not getting it serviced regularly and a child abusing it.)

It has finally seen its last days for me. But If I could buy another one of the same model I would in a heartbeat. I am just a home sewer but have used it regularly: from toy making to bridal gowns.

Repair men seem to love working on these old machines. Parts are readily available. I have used newer models and prefer the older. I am 57 years old and you would think I would have purchased a newer model but am now looking for a vintage machine to replace this one. It really has been hassle free and dependable.

The worse thing I can encounter in all my sewing is having trouble with a machine in the middle of a project when you have a deadline to meet. I have been called over to other ladies homes a dozen times to look at their machine and help them get theirs going and come home and hugged my machine.

I find mine very dependable. Hope this is helpful.

Check Ebay

You can find plenty of old Bernina's on Ebay and sometimes craigslist.com or similar classifieds websites. I just bought an old Bernina 730 on there for my wife for Christmas. The machines hold their value really well, so even though they are so old they still go for quite a bit of money.
