Should I buy it?
by: Anonymous

After drooling over the new Berninas for a couple of years, I'm days away from a purchase. My old 1008 has been a tiger. Love it, but the 630e has some features the old nonncomputerized machines can't do. Any comments on the 630e?

The Learning Curve
by: wriggly

I've had a 630 e for four years now. There were a few initial problems, particularly with the power supply but they were resolved efficiently and quickly. Since then I've been really getting to grips with the machine. I use my machines for anything from upholstery to freehand embroidery and it handles all of those with aplomb.

You need to use the handbook very thoroughly though and think carefully about what you are trying to achieve. People have reported tension issues with Berninas, I find the answer is often to thread the bobbin thread through the hole in the bobbin case arm to tighten up the tension a little and then adjust the top tension. There are so many different things that can require a change in tension, thread, type of sewing fabric, needle and so on that it's worth trying this little fix before you plunge in and fiddle with the bottom tension. If you do decide to change the bottom tension always scratch a mark in the metal to show where the tension screw was originally before you changed it and then anly move it by tiny amounts.

Overall, this is a lovely machine, robust and versatile. It's worth doing the courses to make sure you're not overwhelmed by the machine and it also gives the dealer a chance to look at your new machine and make any tweaks that need to be done!

Enjoy!

Bernina 630 Artista
by: Lori

The Bernina 630 Artista is a peice of junk. Didn't even have 1 hour of sewing time on it and it broke. Had to take it and have it repaired. The upper thread senor was bad. I will never buy a bernina again. I am stuck with this machine because I can't afford to go buy something different.

Bernina E630
by: Charlotte

I purchased a brand new Bernina E630 and was so disappointed not only in the machine but with the service. I paid for a USB stick and to this day have not received.

The "classes" were a total joke...all the woman did was show us feet that we didn't get with our machines in hope we would buy them. She NEVER went over our machine at all...just to help us get to know it.

I ordered a extension table and it took 3 trips to the store to get the right one...they kept giving me the wrong one. The machine was very noisy sewing or embroidery and the outer shell seems so flimpsy...it appeared to be a machine you might find at a BLUE LIGHT SPECIAL at K Mart...

I could never get help from the dealer or Bernina in general..so it is now gone - and I am back to using my wonderful BL machine - so quiet and sews like you are sewing thru butter...

Maybe I just got a bad machine - but there was no support at all - unless you were there to buy other products. I wasted sooooo much money - I may never recover from..

Bernina Artista 630E
by: Anonymous

Love, love, love this machine. I started out with a Husqvarna Designer Topaz and almost threw the thing out the window. Returned the extremely buggy Husqvarna and went straight to the Bernina dealership.

I have had my Bernina Artista 630E machine for about a year, and sew at least 20 hours a week most weeks. Never ever had an issue. It is amazing the stark difference in quality of stitches, operation and just about everything between the two machines.

Embroidery operations are intuitive and easy to use, and it stitches like a dream. I could not be more pleased with my Bernina. I am definitely a customer for life!

Bad board, bad dealer and bad warranty
by: Anonymous

My new 630 had a bad board in the first month of sewing with it. I had to pay nearly $150 for a replacement board and $150 for the dealer to put in a new board. Your warranty isn't good for labor and is only good at the dealer where you purchased the machine. How do they get by with that?? Also, watch what the dealer quotes you verses what they charge you. Here in Kansas City they attempted to charge me $250 labor instead of the $150 they quoted me.

The BSR seems defective too, it speeds up suddenly and unexpectedly.

Bernina's quality and the collusion of their dealerships are somthing I'd avoid.

Funny that the sewing and vacuum dealers are much worse then used car dealers for taking advantage of customers. Probably due to the fact it's mostly women purchasing.
