While the number of built-in stitches is definitely a lot lower than what its competitors offer, you'll still find more than 20 stitches of which half are decorative. Hence, you can definitely come up with fancy decorations and patterns with relative ease.
2. Variable length and width of stitches.
It's actually not enough that you can produce the right stitch. It's also very important that you can vary them, depending on your preference or the need of the sewing project.
The Bernina 830 sewing machine doesn't really have a comprehensive variable stitching mechanism, but you can still do so until 4 mm. If you're a beginner, and you're still trying to familiarize yourself with the different features of a sewing machine, this is already a good start for you.
3. Presence of controls.
Keep in mind that the Bernina model 830 is not electronic or computerized. This means that you cannot find an LCD screen and other functions that could make sewing almost like few presses of the button.
Nevertheless, the 830 model contains controls or dials. This allows you to come up with the right stitches as well as differ their sizes and lengths. You may even control the speed or the torque of the sewing equipment. The control is located under the sewing machine.
4. Lift arm.
There is also a foot lift arm in the Bernina 830, though you have to manually add it by placing one in a socket. If you want to raise the foot of the sewing machine, you have to press it with the help of your knee.
The lift arm helps to hold the fabric properly while you're sewing. Moreover, when it comes to feet, there are numerous that you can choose from.
Common feet you have to watch out for are zigzag, overlock, button hole, tailor talking, and lap hemmer, to name a few.
Disadvantage Of Bernina 830

I am thinking of purchasing this one for my mom, but after seeing its price, I am having second thoughts. Nevertheless, seeing how my friend beams with pride with her own 830 Bernina sewing machine, I may just have to save dollars for it. I tried it once for our sewing project, and creating those cuffs and sleeves was a breeze.-Karen
