Bernina Patchwork Edition 230

I was so excited to be able to buy one of the Bernina Patchwork Edition 230 sewing machines. The sales person couldn't say enough good things about it. I also have numerous quilting buddies that own them and so I went ahead and bought one.

I have had it for approximately 5 months. At first I was so delighted with everything it could do. It was the perfect machine for me (a beginning quilter with not much to spend on a machine). What a treat to own one.........but, tonight for no reason it quit sewing. Depressing the foot pedal only made a whirring noise.

I am totally disappointed that it is not working. My Mother's Singer is over 50 years old and it Still runs fine. So much for modern technology!!!

tech what?
by: helena llewellyn south wales uk

take it back straight away and don't be put off by the nonsense you might encounter from the dealer. obviously there is a fault here that needs to be sorted straight away. it should be under a warranty so it won't cost you a penny. just a little inconvenience of being without a machine for a while. they might even give you a loan machine while they repair yours. ask them. it's nice to hear of new ladies getting into the sewing world. we oldies have so much knowledge to share. i love my hobby and i love to teach aswell. good luck and don't forget don't let the dealer fob you off, be direct and to the point if you see this happening. kind regards helena

Check the Bobbin Winder!
by: Anonymous

My new Bernina machine (Activa 240) seemed to stop working only a few months after I'd bought it and only made a whirring noise when I depressed the foot pedal. Being very new to sewing I phoned an experienced friend and she diagnosed the problem over the phone - I had accidentally moved the bobbin winder engaging lever. I've done it twice since but now know to check it if I get the whirring noise.

whirring noise

The same thing happened to me. Hope your solution is as simple as mine. The bobbin lever was pushed to "wind", as soon as I pushed it back to the right the machine worked properly.

Whirring sound
by: Anonymous

I thought my Bernina needed a major repair because of a loud whirring noise but after reading some comments I tried moving the bobbin winding switch to the right and it stopped. I'm so happy it was nothing serious.

Bernina 230PE
by: Anonymous

I've been sewing on the Bernina 230PE machine for a year. It is a good little workhorse. As long as you don't need embroidery or free motion quilting this machine has a fair number of decorative stitches, button holes and utility stitches. It is lightweight and compact but very sturdy. Spend the extra money for the walking foot and maybe a few other specific feet and you'll be happy doing all kinds of basic sewing.

Love this machine!
by: Anonymous

I've had my Activa PE 230 for 4 years now and I have used it to do everything, from repairs to fancy art quilts to free motion stitching on lap quilts, etc. It is amazing! The stitches are perfect all the time, no tension adjustment ever needed, and it does beautiful free motion stitching (with the proper foot, of course). It is so light weight, it is portable for taking to classes or sewing sessions with friends. It is well worth the money for all it does. I also own the old Bernina 830 workhorse - I will never sell it! It can sew through ANYthing on earth, it is so sturdy and the tension is flawless. I am a true Bernina fan through and through.

Love it, zero complaints
by: Anonymous

This has been my first 'computerized' type of machine. I LOVE it. We bought it May 2007 and it is doing wonderfully and I couldn't ask for better so far. I just hope it continues as it has long term, but I am thrilled with it so far.

Bernina 230 Patchwork
by: Karen Henderson

Thanks to the recommendatioon from this blog I did buy a Bernina 230 from my quilt shop Loose Threads, Seymour Indiana. It is a 2009 and was used in the shop. The day I bought it I had to take it away from an employee who was sewing on it. LOL. I have completed a twin size quilt top with "NOT ONE PROBLEM."
I will get the full warranty and the classes too. I will send mor when I start quilting.
