Brother 270D

by Paula
(Johnson City, TN)

I love my Brother 270D sewing machine....when it's working. I have not had my machine very long and it is now off to the shop for the second time!!

This is my first embroidery machine and I have found this easy to use. However, my frustrations continue to increase with each visit to the shop.

The machine is also hard to thread. The first few times I placed the thread into the cassette and it automatically threaded... it was wonderful. However, after a few uses it began to get more and more cantankerous. I would not buy the Brother 270D model again.

Bother SE270 D
by: Carla Voss

I have had the Bother SE270 D sewing machine for several years now. I love it! It does so many things. First and foremost, it threads itself!! In addition to all of the embroidery designs built in, I am also able to download new designs from the internet, and insert the info card, and presto! The amount of designs are limitless!.

I was disappointed in your write up that you said one of the disadvantages to this machine was its price... I found it to very economical considering all of the functions it preforms. The only things I don't like about the machine are some of the plastic parts. I tend to go about anything I do rather quickly, and I have to slow myself down with this machine because I am afraid I will break something! I haven't yet.

The thread capsule cover, and the bobbin rewind mechanisms make me a little nervous. They seem very fragile.. some parts seem so thin, wiggly!
The machine will beep at me and make weird noises if do something out of sequence, or don't have the needle in securely, etc.. This scared me at first, but it is really a big help to ensure that everything is ready to start sewing.

Brother Disney SE 270D

Not very happy with the self-threader. My machine is 4 years old, does not get used a lot & the self-threader is on the blink, therefore my machine is of no value to me or anyone else.

Brother 270 D
by: Lena Nolan

Not one....but two Brother 270 D embroidery machines that I bought brand new have locked up within the first year of normal use. Two separate repair shops told me they aren't worth working on. They have plastic gears and replacing them is as much as the purchase of a new one. What a piece of junk. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY.

Brother 270d
by: Debbie McCormick

I've owned the Brother 270d machine for just a little over 3yrs. now and I love it. I was replacing an ancient Kenmore (you know, straight stitch, zigzag and push button reverse) when I discovered that sewing/embroidery combos existed. I had never done any machine embroidery before but it sounded like fun.

This machine does so much so well for an entry level. The sewing stitches are beautiful and the embroidery designs come out superb. The first thing I discovered was that free embroidery designs were everywhere on the web. WooHoo So then I had to purchase Ped-Basic to get them from my computer to my machine.

Like a few others have mentioned I started having trouble with the automatic threading after a couple months but with mine it was op.error. I found that if I hit the needle down button once before inserting the cassette it threaded like a charm and has been 100% since then. note: I only do this for the 1st cassette when embroidering.

The 4x4 area seems a little limiting sometimes but I've learned to work around that with split designs and a larger hoop. I would wholeheartedly recommend this machine to a beginner or hobbyist.
So many free designs and sew little time.

Brother D270
by: dee

Absolute rubbish... I would never, ever, ever buy a Brother machine again. Within 6 months (of very little use) only half the alphabet was available on the embroidery section. The rest just disappeared!!!

After about 1 year the machine just refused to work. I kept getting a message on the lcd display saying that the 'security device had been activated' Looked through all the manuals, on-line, contacted Brother, all to no avail.

This Brother D270 sewing machine was purchased in USA but we now live in Switzerland. I took the machine to Brother Switzerland for repair....some return journey of 150 kilometers. They were most unhelpful - wasn't bought in Switzerland therefore they could not repair.

A disgraceful service - never again. I will stick with the Swiss machines, Elna, Bernina etc..

Brother SD -270
by: Loretta Hoover

When I first purchased the Brother SD-270 sewing machine I really loved the ability to create great gifts for friends and family by embroidering. Now, however: time has passed and only one Christmas worth of creating, has left me.

You see, the machine had automatic threading feature which was great for those with poor eye sight but it quickly showed problems and then stopped working all together. Taking this machine to a qualified dealer I was told that basically this and one other model were a piece of crap, only worth about $100.00 for trade-in.

This dealer further explained that many of these models had been returned. No one bothered to tell me that Brother no longer would stand behind their products.

Final note: VERY VERY FRUSTRATED AND FEELING lost for words to explain how disappointed I have become to have spent so much money and no way of recovery. CAN YOU HELP ME IN ANY WAY TO RECOVER!!!!!!

I wonder do all customers of Brother become so disappointed or just the ones buying this particular model????

Please answer and give me some advice if you can. I really need to be able to use my machine or a different one this time of the year. No funds available for due to health problems no employment the last 3 years. Desperate in Need.

I have both the brother 270d and the Duetta 4500D. I will never buy a Brother again. The thread breaks, the self threading stops working and the warranty is for only one year which is about how long they take to break. They feel cheap and plastic. I am about to get a Husqvarna Viking.

Brother SE270D
by: Tanya

I love how smoothly the Brother SE270D sewing machine sews. BUT my bobbin winder quit working after a few months. AND my automatic threader quit working too, although it lasted several years before it broke.

The repair guy told me it was so expensive to fix, that I could almost buy a new machine and if he was able to fix it, it would probably just break again. I am heartbroken. I absolutely loved this machine.

Huge disappointment.
by: Anonymous

I bought my Brother 270D within the past year and the self-threading was what sold me on it. Boy, a better pair of glasses would have been cheaper and lasted longer! I have to rethread the cassette several (upwords of a dozen) times before I can even get the end of the thread to show itself so I can finish the threading. It has received little wear since it has been used more for repairing clothing than anything else lately. Now that I need a reliable embroidery machine, I feel defrauded. A small pattern that should only take a few minutes takes nearly an hour because I have to rethread the cassette over and over with each color change. I had always heard that Brother had quality sewing machines but my experience has been just the opposite. Buy a different brand.

Brother 270D
by: Lorna

I have had my Brother 270D sewing machine for a little over 3 years. I found that as long as the top thread was threaded correctly it worked great.
Unfortunately, it has the same problem others seem to be having.

A piece fell off the automatic threader. The local repair shop told me the machine is not worth fixing. I am very disappointed.

I bought my last Brother sewing machine when I was a teenager. It lasted 25 years and cost 1/4 the price. I feel ripped off. I expected my Brother 270D machine to last much longer.

When it worked it was great, but now that is does not work I am going to have to put out a lot of money for a replacement. I expected the 270D to work for many years and I am very disappointed. My next machine will not be a Brother.

problems with 270 D cannot get it to sew a bit
by: Donna

i threaded the machine, and tried to get it do regular stitching, but it will not do that, cannot get the bobbin thread to come up and it does nothing but get tangled up in the machine. Not a happy camper, I bought this from ebay.com and what a waste of 300 dollars...Never again will I do such a thing, just want the machine to work and work right.
