Brother Galaxie 3000

by Jeanne-M Turner
(France)

I have had a Brother Galaxie 3000 sewing machine for the last eight years. It has only been used for embroidery as I have a Janome 6500 for general sewing and dressmaking which has been superb.

My Brother Galaxie 3000 was my pride and joy and I have embroidered centres for patchwork quilts and all sorts with no problem but recently it shreds the thread all the time. I have tried everything recommended from changing needles, stabilizers, threads of the best quality and having taken it back for check over by a man who is excellent when it comes to machine repairs but I fear it may be becoming old. Is this so?

It takes approximately two days to sew a design programmed at 80 minutes because of needle changes or re-threading of thread every other minute. What could be the cause when, having stripped down the machine all appears to be clean and lubricated?

I have hammered my Janome to death but it still keeps going. A brilliant machine to which my Brother cannot compare which is why I reserve it only for embroidery. Is it time for a change and if so, what would be recommended for embroidery of first rate quality please?

Check Dealerships Carefully
by: Cathy L/AZ

Before you purchase a new machine, be sure to check out your dealer of that machine choice. There are a
lot of dealers only interested in their bottom line....PROFIT. Screw the customer. I'm not saying all dealers are this way, there are many that will put the customer first but they are few and far between.
As for a machine, I can only say Buyer Be Ware! Carefully check out the ones that interest you. What you get for your money and how user friendly it is to learn the software/machine. Many claim User Friendly and they are not.
Unfortunately, I have had many issues with Bernina and their dealers so I'm not a good source or one to give you advise on those machines. I will tell you this: I would NEVER purchase another Bernina in this life time.

Galaxie 3000
by: Jeanne-M Turner

Following on from my recent problem with my Brother Super Galaxie 3000. You seem to have no area for comment on the various designs that can be purchased off the internet. I have often used www.emblibrary and love the quality of design that they produce. They used to sew well on my machine but recently, due to the density of the stitch count my machine no longer copes as well as I feel it should.

Have new machines become more sophisticated now? There are such lovely designs to purchase but have they become too complex these days. The problem may not be with the thread, I use top quality thread, or the needles which keep breaking,or even the stabilizer, I tend to use the iron on variety which has always been good in the past. Maybe it is the designs produced where the designers are getting more complex with their intricacy and forgetting the limits of the normal domestic machine. I would like, in the future, since I only use my Brother Galaxie for embroidery, to turn it in for an embroidery only machine and then, perhaps, I will be able to produce more effectively, some of these beautiful designs now on offer, but should this be necessary?

There are many sources for buying designs now from the internet but, alas, one does not always know exactly how it will sew out until after the purchase. Some designs, even apparently simple looking, can be high on density of stitching.I would like to hear of other peoples views on how they find what designs work and which do not on home domestic machines.
