Brother Innov-is QC-1000

by Andrea
(Washington State)

It's either a lemon or failed technology. The Brother Innov-is QC-1000 sewing machine cost close to $2,000 -- on sale! -- in March 2009.

Worked great for about 1 year, then since its annual check-up in March 2010 I've had to take it back for repair 4 times, as of October 2010. I clean the bobbin case and replace needles all the time, but the Brother Innov-is QC-1000 continues to skip stitches.

I was told I was using the "wrong batting" so I changed batting but it still skips stitches. And shouldn't a machine called "Quilt Club" at that price be able to sew on ANY batting?

And Brother Customer Support said I was using the wrong size needle, so I started using the recommended bigger size. It still skips stitches.

I bought a top quality thread and it still skips stitches. What an expensive disappointment.

Your Brothers Machine
by: Alice McFarland

I sure don't buy there whole resolve thought on your brothers machine. I have 6 machines,2 over locks, & several even treadle machines. they all sew anything. i have heard the Needle idea. thread etc. & never found any of it true. A friend of mine bought a new Bernina they told her she couldn't use Schmetz needles in it only Bernina so she gave me about 10 pkg of Schmetz needles that she had bought. yrs later she found that wasn't true & felt kind of stupid. I think anyone that pays $2000.00 for a machine needs to expect more than 1 yr out of it. I would sure be the nagger. I don't think those Co. know the power of women with a passion for sewing. Don't give up.

Take your machine to someone else
by: Anonymous

I have had the Brother innov-is QC- 1000 for several yrs, Since retirement 6 yrs ago. LOVE IT. Have not had any problems. I would say the person that worked on your machine is the problem. I have a wonderfull place in Wichita,ks that takes great care of my machines for me. I drive from southern Missouri to have clean my machine once a year. I had the same problem after my brother ult2002 was cleaned. Dan said he must not have gotten the timeing of the needle right , fixed it right away. I the needle and the loop in the case don't come together it will skip stitches. Take it to someone else it will be fixed. You can also contact Brother they are always helpfull.

Brother Innov-is lemon
by: Anonymous

I think my brother innov-is 80 project runway is also a lemon. Its been in shop twice and now the warranty has expired. The store doesn't do refunds and I'm not about to give the business more money for a more expensive machine.

Qc 1000 NEW
by: Kathy

I have the qc 1000 - about two years now and I love it. Occasionally I have a problem with skipped stitches. After trying several things I discovered part of the problem was the wrong type of needle for the fabric. Biggest problem is Batik fabric. Found that I needed a microtex needle. Also for my other top stitching the dealer recommend a nickel plated needle not a quilting needle
