Brother Pacesetter 8500

I purchased my Brother Pacesetter 8500 sewing machine in the year 2000. At the same time I purchased PE2 Design embroidery software and about 3 years later updated it with Babylock's Palette.
I just love using my Brother Pacesetter 8500 machine embroidering and making all my granddaughters dresses and jackets until she became a teen and then the stuff I made wasn't peer comparable. I love to embroider hand towels as gifts in lieu of greeting cards.
For about two years I did all the embroidery for a children's shop, mostly baby towels, blankets and xmas stockings. Was lots of fun.
This past Christmas my children gave me a laptop computer that runs on Windows 7. Well my hobby has come to an abrupt end because Windows 7 is not compatible with Brother's PE Designs, versions 2 thru 6. It works OK with versions 7 and 8. This software was and is very expensive and I at my age and income can't afford new software. The price is still $800+.
Anyhow my Brother Pacesetter 8500 machine was good to me, never had any problems with it. However I was fasticious about keeping the lint cleared out of it. The lint can do all kinds of things if not removed.
If anyone else has the same problem and has found a solution, I would like to know. bookins22@optimum.net
