Compton from Aldi

I had my "Compton" brand sewing machine I got from Aldi for two years before I took it in for service and found out it was a Janome. It has been a little champ and gone through everything I asked of it. For being $75, I thought it lasted fairly well (2 years with no problems at all and another half a year with tension issues).

I'm afraid it might have seen its last days here, because the tension issues have become more trouble than they're worth. It is birds nesting now. But prior to that, this was a terrific little machine.

Let me put it to you this way- if all you are doing are light sewing, crafting projects and mending, this is the perfect machine for you. It is very easy to use. It was a great price for something that does so much. It has at least 12 stitch functions with some decorative. It does button holes easily.

I think that my last denim quilt did it in though. So a couple layers of denim it works fine. But 4-6 layers with batting in between... Not so much.

Would I get this machine again? You bet. Aldi carries them mostly around Christmas time. They go fast! Good luck getting one!

hiya, when i do a quilt with so much in as your denim ones (i put fleece and dacron aswell sometimes ) i have an old singer hand driven and in a table with a treadle. it loves this type of quilt and takes in the thickness really well. if you can get one,get it. i had mine out of a skip and the serial number dated it to 1910. it was in perfect condition for such an age. i love it and it saves my modern expensive ones. second hand shops have them too and they are cheap, even for antiques. look for one and you won't look back i promise you. also the repair is nothing on them they are so basic nothing really can go wrong with them. my husband fixes mine not that anything goes wrong with it. and i oil and clean it after use. and when the modern ones break up i always have a machine to sew on. best of luck helena
