In order to enhance the aesthetic beauty of the embroidery work, supplies such as sequins, pearls, metal strips, beads, shells, and quills are also used.

Embroidery has become very popular because of the easy-to-use modern sewing machines, therefore the embroidery supply companies now have so many supplies available for anyone who loves doing needlework.

Kinds of Embroidery Supplies

These are the various supplies and embroidery equipment you normally need for your needlework.

1. Backings - Backing is used for stabilizing fabric when doing needlework.

It is made from a non-woven fabric that does not stretch in any direction. The tear-away backing is used when the backside of the fabric must be seen.

The cutaway backing is used for garments that need to be washed. There are other several kinds of backings, the adhesive backing, backing for caps, backing by the roll, backing in pre-cut sheets, and all other backings.

2. Bobbins - There are two types of bobbins, the Spun Polyester Type that has a course texture and is more durable as compared to the second type of bobbin that is the filament polyester type, which is extra smooth as well as extra strong. Bobbin cases also come in several types like the cardboard-sided bobbins, the plastic-sided bobbins, and the sideless bobbin.

3. Hoops - There are several types of hoops. Tubular hoops are the most popular hoops today. They differ from other hoops in such a way that its hoop arms are on the outside while the large outer ring is on the inside of the garment.

Wooden Hoops have great holding power because of the grain pattern on the hoops itself. Arm-type hoops are general purpose hoops used with the table top for fabrics that "open-up" such as oxford shirts. The jacketback hoops are large wooden hoops used with the table top for flat goods only. Magnetic Hoops are generally used for lightweight garments and are easy to mount on your embroidery machine.

4. Needles - Needles are either made from titanium or chrome and comes in several sizes, point, and eye combination.

5. Threads - Most thread suppliers often manufacture threads made from polyester and rayon. They also produce metallic threads. Thread kits are also offered and they are a lot cheaper than buying individual thread colors.

6. Tools - Embroidery tools are necessary for needlework and there are tools available for left-handed workers. Such tools are Embroidery Scissors and Shears that come in types like appliqué and double curved, Embroidery Nippers, Embroidery Tweezers, Seam Rippers, and Stitch Erasers.

7. Software - Software supplies offer font and design packages as well as stand-alone embroidery software.

8. Miscellaneous - Several miscellaneous supplies include hoop screws for tightening the hoops, Lint Brush that cleans the difficult areas of the embroidery machines, and Embroidery Tape that keeps embroidery thread from tangling. These tapes are very durable, reusable, and versatile.

Other miscellaneous supplies include disappearing markers that are useful for temporary marking, embroidering, memo writing, and drawing designs, mini craft iron that is used for hoop ironing and appliqué, thread Tension Gauges that take the guesswork out of bobbin and thread tensions, touch up markers for correcting minor embroidery mistakes, and embroidery hoop spreader springs that are placed over the hoop tension screw to spread the outer hoop open, making hoping easier.
