Husqvarna 500

by Tammy from quilt-pictures.com
(Wilton Center, IL)

I bought my Husqvarna model 500 in 1994, brand new. It was a real splurge for me, but it has been so worth it. At the time, I sewed many clothes for myself. I moved into quilting and have made at least 50 quilts on it.

A few years ago, I bought a fabric mover with stitch regulator to go with it and love that too. I've only had 1 problem with my 500 and that about about 2 years ago. It wouldn't sew when I pressed the foot. My dealer replaced a module in it and it's been running fine since then.

I'm about to pass it on to my 10 year old daughter now, only after I finish the quilt I'm working on. Then I will start playing with my new machine - a Sapphire 850.

Older Vikings
by: Lynn Cranmer

I have had several older Vikings and have loved everyone of them. I have 2 newer ones that are not up to the traditional standards of the 6000 series. I have had trouble with Viking repairs. The repair men dont want to fix them or tell me "I need a new machine". Even though parts can be hard to find for the oler ones, they seem to be more sturdy. The plastic has cracked on 2 newer ones and my 936 Huskylock has salt and corrosion damage . It is only 3 years old and it CANNOT be fixed. I heard it was the quality of the Vikings lately from FOUR repairmen. I am buying Baby Locks and Janomes in the future. No help or support from Viking, either.

Sorry to hear

Thank you for posting your comment about the Viking. I have a Singer that the repair man said it can't be fixed and suggested I purchase a Viking (that's what they sell), told me they will always have parts and hardly ever needs fixed. I've been looking at the Janome sewing machines as well. That maybe my next purchase, it's a hard one to make since I've been with my Singer for 27 years though.

Sears Kenmore is same as Janome
by: klvern

I have a Viking and need a module for it but so far am happy with my machine.
If looking at the Janome, would like for you to know that the Sears Kenmore and Janome are made in the same factory! The Kenmores are great machines for a lot less money. Check them out before you purchase that Janome!

Thanks for the info on Janome's
by: Lora

I appreciate knowing this about Kenmore and Janome. I did get another Singer and I do like it, for what I'm using it for though I think I should've gotten something with a little more umph to it. My daughter is looking into purchasing a sewing machine and I've told her about this, so she'll be checking out Kenmores.
Thanks again,

Kenmore made to different specifications
by: Anonymous

I heard the Kenmore does not use the same electronics as the Janome. It is made by Janome but the specs are designed to meet a lower price point.
