Husqvarna Prisma 990s

by mary
(marshall, al)

I bought the Husqvarna Prisma 990s sewing machine in 1988 or 89. It sewed okay as far as regular sewing but even zigzag would give problems.

The first few stitches of anything but straight are fine, then after a minute or two it all messes up. The tension has always been a problem in that I had to reset it continually for the same fabric in the same project.

Every time it has been to the repair shop they say it is fixed. It is only fixed for about a day. Then all the problems start again.

I have never been happy with the Husqvarna Prisma 990s machine. Now that I am looking for a new machine I want something that will inspire me to take up the enjoyment of sewing again.

I must admit I've not done much sewing in the last few years because it was always such a disappointment and hassle working with this machine.

prisma 990 I have one that's 22 years old no problems until the hand wheel broke and when I took it in for repair I was told that couldn't get the part any more, so here I am with a machine that I can't use.

I Love my Harqvarna 990 Im a seasoned sewer and my first computerized machine was the 990 Im now selling it for 290.00 and is worth every penny. I made dresses, quilts, curtins etc. I would recomend it for the new sewer. but must add that the next machine I bought after the 990 was a bernina artista 165 and I also Love it just an upgrade from 990. any way good luck on your search.

Missing Cassettes
by: Anonymous

I have relocated to Washington state and the movers lost one of the boxes that held some of my sewing stuff. That box contained 3 of the 4 cassettes for my Prisma 990. I have Cassette 1 because it was in the machine but I need 2, 3 and 4. Number 2 is for fancy stitches, 3 for cursive letters and 4 is for block letters.

I have been told by Viking that they are no longer available and have given up trying to find them online so I thought that I could just make them. My plan is to xerox the pictures of the face of the cassettes from my manual and then glue them to the plates that I will make. Unfortunately, the pictures of the cassettes in the manual do not show the bottoms of the cassettes and it is the location and size of the notches in the bottom that tell the machine what to do.

Would someone please, please, please be willing to do a big, big favor to a fellow sewer who is a complete stranger? Would you be able to trace or photograph the three cards that I don't have and email them to me?

When I studied soft furnishig I bought this prisma 990. I am now a little older and do not use it. It is in excellent condition and had never ever failed me. I am able to send pictures of it through E-mail for prospective buyers?

Ruffler Attachment
by: MOya

I have had my 990 for over 20 years and been quite happy with it.

I am looking for the ruffler attachment. In the manual it is listed as 411 85 88-01.

I think I had one originally but have moved house several times and it's nowhere to be found. Does anyone have one they are not using and would like to part with?

Husqvarna 990
by: Helen

My Husqvarna was great until it would no longer sew except for straight forward. The repair shop said the circuit board (#412021645) went out and they could not order a new one. Does anyone know where I might be able to get this part for them to put in?

Viking Prisma 990
by: Tina Brown

I bought my Viking Prisma 990 in 1986 and have loved it. Unfortunately, I have the same problem as the previous person. My machine is in perfect condition (I service it regularly), except the back stitch doesn't work and I am told I would need a new circuit board, that is unavailable.

I hate replacing a perfect machine because of one stitch, but it is essential for buttonholes. Don't know what to do.

husqvarna prisma 990

Said to be top of the range but made of plastic that breaks and is unable to be replaced. Cord wires faulty and work only if taped into a particular position. Stitches not reliable.

Viking 990SE
by: Frances Rouse

Ok it is an old machine, what a great on it is, it never quits, complains, burbs or grunts. Once in awhile I clean the bobbin area, running the sweeper over the area. As long as thread, needles and bobbin thread match, not damaged, I'm off to sewing another project.

I've owned other Vikings, they were all wonderful.
I would love a upper end machine, financially it is out of the question. I'll keep perking along on my Viking 990, until it can't perk anymore.

990 bobbins
by: Anonymous

I just bought bobbins for my 990 at the Huskvarna dealer that is in my local JoAnn fabric store. The part # on the package is 412 06 12-45. Hold on to your hat because they are expensive - $15.95 for 10 bobbins. Needed a ruffler foot but dealer wanted almost $80 for one. Didn't buy it. Accessories for Vikings have gotten very expensive. Love this machine though, bought it in 1985 and still sews beautifully. Have used it mostly for making draperies.

Repaired 990S
by: Anonymous

Baytron in Richmond, VA DID fix my 990S viking/Huskvarna. Nice man, may have or need time to work your needs in. It was well worth a try for the machine I love. He has been the ONLY person willing to even take a look.
All I needed was a fuse!!!! The mechanism may be simpler than what NASA may need him to repair but the "easy" seems to be the hardest to have fixed..."no money in it".

Good luck.

used rufflers
by: Anonymous

Ruffler? Dont' own one for this machine but did purchase some used feet from The Electric Hospital in Coos Bay Oregon several years ago. Stopped by to chat with the store owners on a camping trip (from VA) two years ago...tiny store, great independent repair shop in the rear. The parts prices were great but needed to buy a "Lot" of feet. Now there are duplicates of some feet. These duplicates I have shared with friends who have new Viking machines as the feet have remained the same (clip on style) for many years. They might have a ruffler to sell OR could be on the lookout for one to fit.

I am wondering if other repair shops would be willing to sell the "used" feet if anyone would ask.

Good luck,
L.

980 Husqvarna Prisma
by: larryschuetter@ymail.com

I have a 980 machine needing replacement parts.
The hand wheel pressure adjustment internal part is broken, and the carriage under the pressure plates are worn. Other then that the machine is still in good condition.
Is there a place in europe or china that these parts can be ordered.

Offer
by: Danielle

I used to own a Husqvarna Prisma 990 that I sold to buy a new one.

I have a dual feeder feet brand new, still in its box, that I had bought for that machine and that I paid 75.00 $CAN back then. I would sell it for 45.00 $CAN with lots of bobins which do not fit my new machine.

Anyone interested?
