Janome 10000 sewing machine

by Sharon Jones
(Jensen Beach, Fl. USA)

I love using my Janome 10000 sewing machine to make quilt labels for my quilts. It's very easy to embroider with because you don't have all this contraption you have to attach to the machine like most embroidery machines do.

You just snap the hoop in place and go. You can easily program your message and save it if you don't have time to complete the project. It also does regular sewing and all kinds of embroidery stitches.

I had really gone into the sewing store to purchase another brand of machine I had my heart set on getting, but when my husband (an engineer) watched the lady sew on this machine he was so impressed with how smoothly and quietly it sewed he wanted me to get it. I just had to have the bobbin case replaced because it was messed up, but the machine had been used a lot since purchased in 2001.

My only disappointment is that you are supposed to be able to hook it up to your computer and download designs, but I have never been able to do that. My husband bought me my own computer, but it has Vista on it and the programs were made to work with Windows. I haven't been able to get someone to help me solve this problem.

I really have no issues with the Janome 10000 to make "con" remarks. If the bobbin messes up when you try to embroider the bobbin threads all come to the top of the design, but hopefully since the bobbin case was just replaced I won't have that problem anymore. At least not for a while.

I don't think they sell this model any more, they have an upgraded model. You would have to be real computer savvy to work with it with a computer, so maybe its just as well I can't use those programs.

VISTA FIX
by: Peggy

To solve the Vista problem with my 10000 I went on EBAY and bought a used laptop running windows 2000. I paid about $135 and I use it strictly for my embroidery, This may be a good idea for you

Janome memory craft 10001
by: Margaret Bryant

The machine works, it is just a nightmare to get the computer and the machine to co-operate. I bought the Janome memory craft 10001 sewing machine second hand. Never do that. The technology runs ahead of machines. I bought a computer for the machine. I think it is too advanced for the machine and getting help is unbelievable. The dealer told me to buy another machine. Thanks a lot.

Janome 10001
by: Joyce

I have the Janome 10001 which is the upgrade of the 10000. I purchased it from my dealer in 2004. When it comes to embroidery, I don't think there is any other like it outside of an industrial embroidery machine.

First of all, it is relatively easy to transfer designs from your computer to your machine. All you need is Customizer 10000, and the PC link which is a cable your dealer can get for you It costs about $30. If you have a laptop you can hook the machine to it and transfer the designs out of customizer to the machine. Another way is to get the PCMIA ATA flash disk card This card works like a floppy disk My only problem with this is that my new computer which also has VISTA does not have the ata card slot or a floppy disk drive. Therefore I have to buy a usb external ata flash card reader/writer to fit my card. I would transfer the designs from the computer to my machine this way. Problem is, I can find the proper reader/writer right now. I bought a reader/writer, but it is the wrong one, so if anyone knows anything about the proper drive please let me know.

I just want to say that Vista works well with Customizer and the PC-Link cable. No problems there. I transfer designs this way every day. I would like to use the card though to be able to store more designs in my machine.

The only problem I find with the 10001 is the needle threader. Mine came down, would not go back up and I could not use the machine at all, so my dealer sent it back to the factory to be fixed because it was a conmputer problem. (costs around $350). Machine came back, needle threader was back in place with machine up and running, but guess what!!! Threader still does not work.

The other problem is the bobbin winder. Sometimes the thread will wind around the spindle instead of the bobbin and cause problems. Other than that, a fine machine!

hi sharon the software is not as complicated as it looks and there is help every step of the way. my pfaff 2170 has software (and i'm not young either) and i found it ok working from the books that came with it and the internet help provided. put the software in the computer and have a gander around. you can't break it. just maybe get lost a bit. try it. be confident. i will look at this machines review and see what it has and maybe i can help a bit. you will be amazed at what you find to do using the software. good luck and kind regards helena

Janome 10000
by: Sharon Jones

Thanks Helena. I'll talk to my husband about it. His computer still has Windows so I guess if I was computer savy enough I could just use his computer. Those programs look very complicated and I'm not sure I could learn to use them. Getting old you know.
