Advantages of the Janome 1600P
Take note of these advantages from the Janome 1600P when you're comparing sewing machines. These should give you a hint of what you're investing your money on:1. It does amazing stitches.
Even though it only does the straight stitch, it does it pretty well. It's also heavy duty ensuring you that you will have a machine that will last a lifetime and help you fulfill all those projects you've set aside.
2. You can control the speed.
Although it goes very, very fast, there is an adjustment lever on the front of the machine that allows you to set the speed. This is nice because when you accelerate with the foot pedal, the setting on the front of machine controls your maximum speed. If you have a heavy foot you can set the speed slower and you don't have to worry about it getting away from you.
Disadvantages of the Janome 1600P
Hopefully these disadvantages will not hinder you from getting your very own Janome 1600P. After all these are overshadowed by the machine's prowess:1. The thread path is hardly thrilling.
There are at least 10 things the thread must pass through between the spool and the needle, and nearly all of them are a challenge. Most require the thread to be put through a closed hole - no hooking it over an open edge. It takes me two, even three times as long to thread this machine as it does to thread any of my others.
2. Another negative is the bobbin in the machine.
It needs a standard metal L bobbin and inserts coming from the left side of the machine. You need to lift the metal plate up and out and the base of a plastic door has to be pulled down. The bobbin fits inside the case in a space of four inches. Unfortunately, the opening is three inches. This can be a real pain to do.
Consumer Review
Although the bobbin, thread path, and needles all present challenges, I really do like the Janome 1600P sewing machine.
It does beautiful work, makes consistent stitches, and handles quilting like a pro. I've been able to complete many beautiful quilts now that I have this set up. -swalt
