Janome 6260 Quilters Companion

by Claire Kelley
(Ava, MO.)

Have had the Janome 6260 Quilters Companion sewing machine for three years - I purchased at recommendation of local quilt shop. I'm pleased with it's performance EXCEPT there is either an electrical short or the footfeed is defective. It's a safety hazard and very frustrating.

Intermittently it will not stop sewing or actually begin sewing unattended. (The only way to get it stopped is to turn machine off). It's been back to the shop for repair twice -first time within first year - no report was received as to the cause (do not know if footfeed was replaced) but it worked okay for several months.

The Janome 6260 Quilters Companion machine is well cared for and not used a great deal. Within the past year it started doing this again - intermittent at first then becoming more often - took back for repair (a 100 mile round trip) - explained problem and said it could also probably use a good cleaning.

Shop called, left message that machine was ready. Picked up on 3-11. Was charged $69.95 for cleaning. I asked about the "run away problem." Clerk referred to ticket and said I needed a new footfeed which would need to be ordered. Frustrated, I brought my machine home and put in closet!

A supposedly good machine should not develop a problem like this. I'm very disappointed with the machine and service received!

Janome 6260QC

I have owned the Janome 6260 QC for 3 years and have never had a problem with it. It sews like a dream and has many decorative stitches. I also do a fair amount of free motion quilting on this machine. A great machine with a lot of features for the money.

I have had my 6260 for almost 3 years and have had it in the al shop for repair a number of times. The first few were minor things-like they did not tell me not to use metal bobbins. I also have had to take it in 2 or 3 times because the timing went out because it hit a pin or something. Do not feel that this is acceptable for any machine. I agree that the manual is not acceptable, it gives no machine servicing at all.
Most of the time I really like this machine but have to be very careful of pins. Currently the tension spring is making a popping noise when the machine is in use. Machine works but makes horrible noise, really hard to work with. Need to have it taken care of but dealer is 2 hours away each way and then will have to make another trip to pick up after repair along with having to do without for a week or two.
Machine does not seem to have good quality control or it has poor construction.

Janome 9500 and Janome 6260
by: Diana

I just bought a Janome 6600. I brought it home and now I wonder... when did the Janome 9500 and Janome 6260 turn yellow like old teeth?

Janome QC 6260
by: Sara

I have had my Janome QC 6260 sewing machine for 2.5 years. Within the first year and half the machine would continue to sew when I take my foot off the control.

I have taken it back to the store for repair several times but no one seems to know what to do with it. IS anyone else having trouble with their machine continuing to sew when you stop?

I would not recommend this machine. After just 18 months of limited patchwork sewing my machine needs major repairs. The repair man told me this is a know fault with the part. the warranty only last 12 months and of course the shop said that I should have had it serviced every 12 months at a cost of $120. I will not know if the motor needs replacing until after I have paid for the faulty part to be replaced. This is jst not good enough for a mid range machine. You would expect to get more than 18 months. I regret selling my old Singer as it never broke down or needed servicing every 12 months to keep it going.

Interesting to hear other stories of 6260 as unreliable. Mine broke down after just 6 weeks of use after I hit a pin. I have hit hundreds of pins with my old Singer and it never had a problem where the bobbin thread wouldn't come up when I manually turn the wheel on the right side. I don't like the plastic presser foot - my quilts slip when I sew the binding on unless I hold onto it with my left hand, thus hurting my back. The presser foot is not a standard 1/4" like my Singer. I am so disappointed in it.

Janome 6260

I would not buy the Janome 6260 sewing machine again. The instruction booklet is very limited. The lady at the sewing center who demonstrated the machine warned me of this, but I had already bought the machine.

Just doesn't have adequate information. For instance, it doesn't describe stitch length and zig- zag settings. I have to experiment on my own to find what I need.

It is hard to clean. You have to remove a screw to clean it.

The worst feature is the bobbin winder. I can never count on it winding a good "clean" bobbin. Thread is loose.

A little piece by the bobbin case often becomes dislodged and makes for a tangled stitch. Now that I know it does this, I look at that problem right away.

There are things that I like. It sews nicely and I like the quilting additions I received. There again, there were no instructions with the quilting gadgets. I've had to figure it all out on my own.

I've had it a couple of years. Plan to take it to be serviced so maybe the bobbin problem can be fixed.

By the way, I am an experienced sewer.
