Janome Memory Craft 4800

by Denise Smith
(Atlanta, Michigan)

The Janome Memory Craft 4800 was supposed to be a $1200 sewing machine I got on "sale" for $800. It has been the worst investment I've ever made. I have had endless problems with it, especially with the thread tension. I've had it in the shop several times.

I am so sorry I purchased this machine as it has been a real "lemon". I would not purchase this brand again. My sister's $200 Brother machine from Walmart works a million times better than my expensive one. If you are looking for a new machine... don't purchase this brand.

Janome MC 4800
by: Elizabeth

I think the Janome MC 4800 sewing machine is way over priced... I have been very disappointed. It has a huge issue sewing over heavy material. I purchased this when I retired and paid $900 for it... was retailed at $1200.

I am a very experienced sewer and thought I was doing something great for ME. I wish I would have looked at more reviews on it as I am always going back to my $239 Sears machine that is 40 years old... sometimes up grade is not always the best. I would never purchase this machine if I could do it over.

Great Machines!
by: Anonymous

I've had my Janome 4000 for 13 years. It's a great machine that's been used tons by me and my daughters.

I also have a 4800 for 9 years. I bought this one used and it's great too.

I have a 4800, bought it used, and it is fantastic. Sews like a dream, no problems at all, and I get great service on all my machines from my dealer Liz from OKC

Janome 4800QC
by: Sue

I have had my Janome 4800QC for four years and it is the best all round machine I have ever had. The embroidery stitches are great although the script lettering is not very clear - I got around this by using the block capitals - but for the number of times I used this feature I didn't mind. The computerized display is clear and the memory function an added bonus. I use my machine on a daily basis for patchwork and general sewing and I would recommend this machine.

shouldn't have bought it
by: Connie

I've had my Janome QC3800 since 2006 and in retrospect I'm sorry I bought it. I've had it in for repairs 3 times since acquiring it. It's still under guarantee so I haven't had to pay for fixing it but it's annoying. The bobbin winder didn't work properly a few times and now it's not sewing properly so I have to take it in again. The black button on the main foot for sewing over heavy seams doesn't work. It doesn't seem to do well on heavy fabrics at all. I don't like the basting stitch and I'm getting to the point where I'm afraid to use it because it seems so sensitive. It's always shouting warnings at me.

Love my MC4800!!
by: Liz

I've had my Janome MC4800 since April 2004 and I've had no problems with it. It was at the dealer once for the warranty maintenance, and I've done the general cleaning and oiling myself since. I have done a lot of sewing with it, as I make many small items besides quilts, for different fund raising groups. I have been considering upgrading to a newer model Janome, I will keep my old one if I do.

No Problem
by: Linda

I've had my Janome MC4800 since May 2002 and have never had a problem with it except having to clean out the lint and replacing the cord my dog chewed. I have taken it for the free servicing and one for a cleaning since the warranty expired. I'm considering buying a Janome embroidery machine now.

janome only
by: Brenda

I have 3 Janome machines a Jem Gold a Quilters Companion 4800 and a 300 E Embroidery and love them all.
I am considering buying the new MQP7700 to add to my selection because of the wide bed for quilting. Sorry to hear others had trouble. I find these machines a dream to work on and I have never had to have service on any of them. The dealer I purchase them from is fantastic and his girls are there to answer any questions I have over the phone or in person. They are willing to trade tables for carry bags and I am very pleased with the quality of service I have recieved.
A friend of mine bought the top of the line Phaff and had it in for repair more than she used it. I told her to ask the manufacturer for a new one. After 3years of this her dealer got her a demonstrator NOT A NEW ONE. For $6000 you would think they would replace the machine. Must have been made on a Friday before a holiday.

love Janome
by: Anonymous

I've had a Jan. MC 4800 for years and have had no problems at all. My sales lady taught me to clean the lint regularly under the plate and I oil it there and have never had it in the shop even for servicing for about 8 years. I also have a Janome MC350E embroidery machine. Same thing with it. I am a Janome lover.

Janome 4800 QE
by: Csarina

The Janome 4800 QE is a fantastic little machine, does all the basics and so much more. I bought mine second hand and it was a very good buy.

My grand daughter is using it at the moment enjoying every minute, if I was not so keen on it myself I would give it to her, but I just cannot bring myself I let it go.

If you can get hold of one they are brilliant.

janome junk
by: helena llewellyn south wales uk

hi, i was almost talked into buying one of the janomes. their machines are not only crap but the customer service of the firm is non existent. no one wants to speak to you from this firm or sort out any problems you may have. my friend bought one, she is so sorry now. if it is new. take it back and demand your money or sue in small claims court if need be. don't let them get away with it. cos if we all do that, there will be even more crap on the market at even higher prices. if the machine is a lemon, don't you be one as well.
