Janome Memory Craft 6600

by Patty Jacobsen
(Windsor, CT)

I bought the Janome Memory Craft 6600 sewing machine about 2-3 months ago. I LOVE it.

The Janome MC 6600 runs like a tank and is very easy to use with just a few instructions. The icons on the machine make it so easy ie, scissors, stop, and needle up and down. I am new to quilting and have not sewn for years so this is the perfect machine for me.

It was affordable and has a lot to offer and not complicated at all. Large work area for your quilt projects.

The shop where I purchased this offers an extensive class in October, 2009, free for this machine. I will certainly take advantage of this.

I had never heard of the Janome Memory Craft 6600 machine before I entered the shop but now I would recommend it to everyone. Thanks Janome...

Janome 6600 Rust ??????
by: Tech 31 year

Of the thousands of Janome's serviced on and hundreds of them 6600s I have not once seen one rust. If you do let your machines set in a damp basement for months you very well could see some rust but that applies to any machine.

As far as your sewing issues. This sounds more like a threading issue. Most of the sewing errors are threading. I see it everyday. The 6600 has an exterior tension unit. You always need to make sure A)The presser foot is in the up position before you start threading to open up the tension pressure discs. If not you will not get the thread between the pressure discs thus having no tension and getting the dreaded rats nest in the bobbin area. B)Make sure thread is pulled all the way through the take up lever spring so the thread will not pull back out of the thread take up slot.

These two issues have caused many, many, many sewing issues on all brands of machines not just Janomes.

Janome 6600
by: Jeanne Cooper

I hate this machine. I have had trouble right from the start. Thread does not thread to the needle properly and is almost impossible.

I am not the only one having trouble with the Janome 6600. When I was in the sewing class, others had the same trouble. It is difficult to thread the bobbin also. There are loose threads and much waste of bobbin thread because when you are near the end of the spool, it jams and you are unable to use it.

The tension has been fixed many times as there is unevenness in the stitches. I have taken the machine in and they have accused me of messing or turning the screw which I did not do. I had a Necchi sewing machine for over 30 years and did not have a single problem.

DO NOT BUY JANOME..you will be very disappointed. I have almost stopped sewing I hate the machine so much. I am looking for another machine.

Janome 6600
by: Sharon

As a professional quilter, I have been using this machine everyday for 4 years. It is a delight! I was looking for a heavy duty machine that would sew through many layers of fabric and batting without a hassle so applying binding is not a problem. It even sews through leather.

I have had NO mechanical/technical problems with my Janome 6600 machine and have recommended it to my friends. I am careful to have it serviced every 9 months due to heavy usage. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this machine.

Janome 3000, Janome 6600
by: Joanne

I love both of these machines... beautiful stitches. Features galore... thread cutter... needle threader... simple monograming to mention a few.

My only suggestion to Janome would be to add a white cover behind the needle so one could have the best of both worlds... a needle threader and an easy to see manual method. In the meantime I use a piece of white paper behind the needle.

Janome 6600P
by: Eric Chauvet

Target needs : Sails, Spinnakers, Clothes, Reliable, multiple slices, long term buy.

Habits : Professional sewing machine for sails.

I just tested the Janome 6600P in the little store in Rennes (France) (out from the plastic pack and plugged on real time). The buyer just says that this is not pertinent to test the PFAFF QE4.0... The 9mm width is important to me but I'm thinking to forget it regarding the comments on this sewing machine on the internet...

If sewingmachinereviewer.com site allows it, I will post a more complete review as soon as I sewed some miles on the 6600P!

Janome memory craft 6600
by: Amy

Fabulous machine! I have had the Janome memory craft 6600 sewing machine for over 2 years now and every time I sew (which is almost everyday) I still am thrilled with the quality of this machine. It is solid and powerful.

The stitch quality is excellent. All of the attachments and features make any project a breeze! This is specifically a quilting machine, however, it is also excellent for clothing construction and home decorating projects.

The only drawback to this machine (Which is a benefit for quilters) is there is no free arm. When I am darning jeans, it is tricky to get to the knee because of the lack of a free arm. That is the only thing I can think of. I would buy this machine again for sure!

The Janome 6600 may rust
by: Hilde Zahm

The Janome 6600 has many great features, but I have broken needles, my nerves, and the needle threader.

When sewing and using the automatic cutting thread feature the thread from point 5 to 6 (this is marked on the machine to make sure you thread the machine correctly) loops too much and if I'm not watching it will jam at the needle plate and your material. This is not a good thing.

I have been sewing for 40 to 50 years. Made all my girls clothes when they were little. I'm still sewing for one of my girls. I made a blouse and dress this last week. Plus I'm having fun with a new why to Pieced Applique by Penny Haren.

I like to say if you do not sew every day the machine will rust. I usually make one quilt for my four kid, my brother, and my son-in-law each year. I like to sew. Also I knit, pick up rocks.
