Kenmore 100 stitch

The 1987 Kenmore 385.1884180 is a great machine that I have had for 22 years. I have never had 1 day of trouble with it and it has sewed everything from lightweight silk blouses to heavyweight insulated drapes. Wonderful 1 touch buttons, automatic buttonholer, as well as a manual button hole foot came standard with the machine.

The only problem I have ever had was trying to understand how to use the blindhem foot. Since I sew a lot of high end custom tailored clothes for myself, I wanted to learn to use it. (the blind hem foot came standard) and it took forever to catch on even with the diagrams in the manual. But once I caught on to just how to fold the material, it was a breeze.

I sewed my own wedding dress and had lots of compliments and everyone wanted to know where I got it from. I sewed a nice suit for my fathers wedding, and had more compliments on my suit then my stepmom got on her outfit-again people wanted to know where I bought it and were amazed I sewed it at home.

The Kenmore 100 stitch sewing machine is wonderful, and a delight to use. I have probably never used more than 24 of the stitches available to me, but who knows I may find uses for the others yet.

Great machine and if you find one in good shape at a yard sale, get one.

Kenmore 100 Stitch Electronic Sewing Machine
by: Anonymous

I purchased the Kenmore 385.1960180 machine in 1992. This is the machine that I use most of the time for my basic sewing. Although I have an older Kenmore with the drop-in cams, buttonholer and some built-in utility stitches and I have a Viking #1+ embroidery machine.

I prefer to use the former machine. It makes the best buttonholes and all you have to do is to touch the keypad to stitch a decorative stitch. One drawback to the electronic machines is that when the circuit boards go bad and the machines are old and the boards are no longer available, the machines become useless. One of my circuit boards is gone and the machine can start but can't complete a buttonhole.

I have the drop-in bobbin with the plastic cover plate. Can't put any pressure on that plate, it constricts the movement of the bobbin thread. I'm going to really miss using this machine.

The other Kenmore 158.18030 is 39 yrs old and is one of the best machines I've ever used. I'll never get rid of it. It is all metal, can do all the things the electronic machine does, but I have to use accessories to accomplish it.

I really like the 2 Kenmore machines I have and have enjoyed sewing on them, but they are the older models and I haven't sewn on the newer machines.
