Pfaff 2140 Creative problems

I purchased a Pfaff 2140 Creative sewing machine with the money that my mum left me after she passed away. Since purchasing it I have had nothing but trouble with the machine and the dealer.

The dealer was wonderful when purchasing the machine but after the sale everything turned around, it was terrible. For example, after purchasing the machine and experiencing difficulties on a daily basis I (again) returned it to the dealer to see if she could assist. She sat down to use the machine and had the same difficulties with the machine that I was experiencing.

However the dealer was insistant that the problems I was experiencing was my fault but could not explain how it was my fault. I wrote to the company with my complaints. However, by that time, the dealer had spoken to the company and put me as the problem not the machine.

About 12 month on I happened to be talking to someone at a local craft show who informed me that the dealer who I purchased that machine from had no training, experience or knowledge of Pfaff machines. I wrote to the company and they quickly sent her on a training program (lucky dealer).

The Pfaff 2140 sewing machine has been sitting on a shelf for sometime. I would never buy or recommend that anyone buy a Pfaff machine after such a traumatic experience unless they check out the dealer and the reviews on the machine. Previous to that I had a Elna for 35 yrs no problems.

What sort of problems?
by: Anonymous

What sort of problems? These are very sophisticated machines that have many features, but they do require a considerable learning curve.

If you have only sewn on mechanical or electronic machines, or are a beginner, you must relearn how to do things on this machine. You must bend to it, rather than the other way around.

If the dealer was as untrained as you say, it is only natural you would both experience the same frustration.

Thank you for your coments and I do take on board what you say about modern machines being more challenging to learn. However, the machine would not do buttonholes, for example, the stitches on the buttonhole were uneven down one side to the extent that one could not slit the buttonhole centre without it fraying down one side. In addition, the stright stitches would be ok for a short time and then without warning it would not engage the stitch at the bottom. Thirdly the features advistised on the machine would not work, such as, the scissor fuction. This had all sorts of complications when doing embroidery and some quilting.

Creative 2144
by: Yvonne

I also bought this machine with money left to me, which I regret bitterly. It's sits on my shelve and I could cry; to think I have wasted all that money on a machine that according to Pfaff there is nothing wrong with it.
I have to say head office as tried on a number of occasions to rectify my complains, however the machine still as problems. I have now got to the point were I think it will never work and feel embarrassed about ringing again.

I have five other machines mainly Bernina and Janome which have never let me down. I have so many machines because I am a textile artist, therefore I use sewing machines most days. In my opinion buy a Janome or Bernina don't touch Pfaff they are a load of rubbish.

Just before the Festival of Quilts I felt brave enough to take my Pfaff off the shelve and use it. On one seam the cotton broke three times. I could throw it through the window.
I had a stand at the NEC in 2010, to my surprise the comments I had about Pfaff, who had the same experience was amazing.
At last I have the courage to say "it's not me" it is the machine. Save your money and tears buy something else. I have tried to sell my machine up to yet no takers I wonder why!

Thank you

I just spent 2.5 hours tyring to make a buttonhole. I hate this machine. I have many unfinished projects, and as I look through them now, I can recall that every single time I put them aside, it had to do with this machine. So thank you for airing your gripe: I will be less likely to self-flagellate in future.

NO MORE PFAFFS EVER
by: Anonymous

I had this machine for around 20 months and the embroidery started doing all kinds of strange things. I ended up taking it in several times and it kept doing the same thing after one use. They eventually sent it somewhere in Iowa and they had to put an entire new mainboard in it. UGH! It worked fine until now and It keeps garbeling up the thread underneath. I have another Pfaff that is a model 2140 and it has strange problems too. My friend bought the new Creative Vision and could never use it because of the tension. They will not stand behind it and fix it. She got rid of it and will never own another Pfaff! I am going to try to get what I can out of the two I have and buy a new Babylock. NO MORE PFAFFS FOR ME.

I can truly sympathize about the 2140. I have one myself...having it's own issues. I am looking to buy another sewing/embroidery machine. So..what is comparible without all the issues? The machine sews great, but the embroidery I've had problems since day one. If I'm going to spend any more money, I would rather spend it on a machine I Will use.

I want a machine that works.

This website has been great. I am trying to get over a horrible time with my creative vision. I will NEVER purchase another machine from them. I can really relate to what you all are going through. I sure wish I had known about all of this before I purchased mine. I have had it for 3 years and the darn thing has never sewn anything right. Not with any type of fabric. I have been told all this is my fault. I too had put it away. I am so frustrated and sad. The dealer here is trying to sell me a new creative ?? anyway I am not sure what they think... cause if I cannot use this one why would I buy another. My machine has been in and out of repairs for 3 years. They are now replacing the mother board. What a mess.
