Pfaff model 130

by Bev B
(Buxton, NC)

My mother bought the Pfaff 130 sewing machine brand new. I was born in 1958 and she was using it then sewing our clothes as well as other peoples.

I learned to sew on this machine before I started in the first grade and have been sewing on it ever since. When my mother passed away I received the machine.

I have only had to get it serviced one time from little fingers playing with the tension knobs. The gentleman told me that it was a two stage motor and the lower stage was beginning to show wear.

That was about 8 years ago. So far the Pfaff 130 is still going. I have had another brand of machine but ended up not liking it and sold it. Like the heading says.... old habits are hard to break.

Currently I am sewing leather cushion covers for a rocker. The needle cuts through the leather like butter and stitches just as smooth.

Love my Pfaff 130
by: Gail

I am blessed to have my mother's Pfaff 130. It definitely is a workhorse, sews and/or mends the lightest to the heaviest material. My machine happens to have the built in decorative stitching ability as well as the ability to use the double needle.

The only problem I am having is that I would like to find a new cabinet to house it. It is still in it's original mahogany cabinet which is now showing it's heavy use.

I would like to get a new cabinet with an air lift mechanism because the machine is HEAVY and hard to lift out of the cabinet. The original chair is still in excellent shape but the cabinet is starting to fall apart.

Any ideas on what kind of sewing cabinet will work with my machine?

**Notice that I am NOT getting rid of my machine, no way, no how!! Love it, love it, love it!!

The Pfaff 130 is a workhorse machine
by: Denise

My mom bought a Pfaff 130 in the early 50's. She made clothes for herself and three daughters. And when I say clothes, I mean everything except bras!

When leisure suits became popular, she made those for the men in the family, too. The machine was used six days/week until the early 80's when she bought another Pfaff machine.

Even though the newer machine had some flashy features, we noticed that she kept going back to the 130. It was a workhorse of a machine. My sister inherited the machine, so it's still being used as a backup machine.

If you can get your hands on a 130, you will be very happy with it. It has straight and zigzag stitches only. Nice and heavy so it doesn't bounce around.

Pfaff 130 is a great sewing machine
by: Lynda

My grandmother originally bought the Pfaff 130 machine and now it is mine. It is fantastic and has abilities that other machines tout as "new". Yes, it is heavy but it has done everything that I've asked of it. It's a great machine.

Instructions for a 130
by: Bev

I had to locate instructions because my tension was way off and it had been several years since I used the machine. I don't have the link on this computer but I did a search "how to correct tension on a Phaff 130." Through weeding the sites out I found one that had diagrams and instructions. You can also write to the Phaff company and they may be able to tell you were to locate them.

I love my machine and won't part with it. Funny I got a comment about the Phaff 130 on October 12th. My machine was my mother's and had she lived she would have been 82 years old today on Oct. 12th. Guess mom's telling me I need to sew something...

Pfaff 130
by: Anonymous

Surprisingly, there is very little service documentation available for the Pfaff 130 sewing machine aside from the user manual scams where people have xeroxed the original pfaff user guide for resale on ebay. I have a 130 and it is a tough machine, but it is not working properly and I have no resources available to me to fix the problem without taking it to a repair center.

My model has a hump on the back with levers for controlling some sort of cam stack. I'm a newbie to these machines, but totally mechanical, so should be able to figure out why my dial-a-stitch keeps slipping out of setting and why I can never get a straight stitch (it's never completely straight, but slightly zig-zagged).

There may be some decent actual repair and service manuals available, but there's no way of knowing if they're credible without buying. If they were on Amazon.com it would be a different story, but these guys are flying under the radar and probably peddling manure.

Old Pfaff Sewing Machine
by: Anonymous

I acquired an old Pfaff sewing machine with the manual and 2 boxes of accessories. I think the whole bunch of attachments. I see a reciept where they put a new Pfaff motor on in 1995. all the electrical cords were very bad so I discarded. I have no idea if the machine works. I wonder if anyone is interested. I will check back with the site in a few days.

Is the older machine with electrical cords that had to be discarded a Pfaff 130? If so, I'm interested. I'm in British Columbia. Wonder where you are, as shipping may be an issue.

Regarding the slight zigzag when set to 0
by: cupid

I don't own a Pfaff (yet) but I can tell you from owning other machines. The only machine that will give you a truly straight stitch, is a straight stitch machine. Meaning, not a zigzag machine. Machines with the built-in zig zag will always have a slight slant to the stitch, even at "0".
But I hear Pfaffs are such nice machine, I could overlook that.

stuck in zigzag
by: Mary

I have sewn on the machine for over a year without a problem. It made great straight stitches. The handle that controls the stitches seems to be very hard to turn and it is difficult to see how to remove it or if it should be lubricated someway. These are great machines and I just dread going to repair shop that will insist on doing a total clean and lubrication which I am very capable of doing on my own.Just trying to save money I guess. Thanks for your comments.

Mary: Same Pfaff problem
by: John

Mary:

I just acquired a Pfaff 130 as well. My zig zag knob is also stuck. In an effort to fix it I made my perfect straight stick go slightly zigzag by mistake. This was done by removing the back cover and loosening the set screw on the linkage in the back. I put a screwdriver in the slot and slightly turned the linkage orientation. I need to reset mine as well to sew straight. I think the problem with the knob being stuck may be within the cover above the needle assembly. I need to figure this out when I get a chance.

Pfaff 130 needles and accesories
by: Tittibha

Found a Pfaff 130 at a 2nd hand store and am refurbishing it. What a find!! I've been sewing all my life and am very pleased with this addition. Can you tell me what size needles are best to begin with? Also, does anyone know where I can get an instruction booklet and new feet? I've seen replacement parts on ebay, but am a bit leery of their condition after reading some of the previous posts on this site.
This is a beauty of a machine! We rewired, cleaned and oiled it and it seems to run fantastic. Can't wait to get the final pieces and begin sewing

Pfaff 130
by: Joyce

After burning up two Singer brands machines, a salesmen recommend the Pfaff 130 to me. I make dancewear and have been using it in my production for over 16 years. Bought it used and it sits in an industrial table with a knee lift. The best $300 I have ever spent. Absolutely love it!

pic of a pfaff 130
by: Marilyn

does anyone have a pic of a pfaff 130? I bought one last night, it does sew, however, I have no idea how to wind the bobbin, nor what all the knobs and levers are for.
I was told by someone that this is NOT a pfaff 130, however it is stamped on the throat, 130B and the serial number on the bottom is 118089, so where can I find out info about it?

straight talk on straight sewing
by: ilma2045

To all those who report a slight zig-zagging when trying to sew straight - as owner of a Pfaff 1222E I can say that there's just one way to be ab-so-lute-ly certain of super-straight dead-even stitching and that's with a Singer 201.
I love my Pfaff (bought new in 1975, used constantly) but for silky-smooth straight sewing NOTHING beats my mother's 1951 treadle/electric 201K - the machine I learned to sew on 60 years ago. After various family traumas while I lived overseas (with the 1222E) it's now refurbished, ready to use, with pride of place in my sunroom. Sheer joy. For anyone into sewing straight, get one.

Pffaf 130
by: Tina Woods

I have had my Pffaf 130 for 23 years now, I was a newly wed at the time I bought the machine,I found it at a yard sale for $25. I thought it would look good in my living room as an antique, back then I was sewing on a singer and it was always jamming up and wouldn't sew certain kinds of material so I trashed it!!!! literally!!!

And got out this Pffaf and started playing with it, I was amazed at how well it ran. I have put at least a hundred thousand miles on it if not more, I am a clothes designer so I have sewed everything from baby clothes, complete wedding partys, denim jeans to light weight leather jackets without any trouble. I have been so happy with this thing that I never considered upgrading to a newer machine until now. I know one thing for sure I will buy another Pffaf (cause I want the embroidery features) but I will never get rid of my Pfaff 130.

Phaff 130

My mother is 88 and has had her Phaff 130 since the early 50's. She needs a belt, what size and where can I order one. She thinks she used a Singer belt in the past. Help! She needs to sew - all the time.
Thanks, Sally

Love my Pfaff 130
by: Phill

I have a small collection of sewing machines. I wanted something that would be able to sew thru anything that was thrown at it. I had heard everyone talk about Pfaff 130 but they were all too expensive. I saw one on craigslist for $150 and bought it. It came with a lot of accessories and in an original Pfaff cabinet. I love it! I am looking for the rest of the feet and the coffeegrinder. I will be keeping it along with my Singer 15-91, Singer 101 and HV Designer II. I am really picky about my sewing machines. I am getting rid of my Necchi SM as while they are okay I prefer my others.
