Pfaff Select 3

by sigrid
(minneapolis)

I owned the Pfaff Select 3 sewing machine for one month and didn't find it worth the price.

I had hoped for a good basic machine, but I found it only sewed a nice seam on cotton fabric with German thread. It could sew through lots of fabric but the seam quality was not consistent.

The tension was hard to adjust and there was always a nasty chewing sound in the bobbin. It just didn't seem to be well manufactured.

hiya, you might have a job on your hands here luv, the new machines today are all fraught with problems it seems. we are all screaming about one problem or another i myself have a pfaff 2170 multi, sewing and embroidery machine and have had so many problems with it. it works fine at the moment and i'm wondering how long that will last. then i have to do a bit more screaming and performing to get it fixed properly. good luck to you and have a real good look around before you commit to anything. check out our reviews as we tell the truth about the new machines. regards helena

I love my Pfaff!

I love my Pfaff Select 3, I'm just about to buy another one for back up as I need to send it for a service.
I have worked it everyday, all day, for a year, sewing multiple layers of furs, fleeces and cottons, endless free-motion embroidery and it has never let me down. I LOVE MY PFAFF!!!

love my pfaff 3.0
by: Anonymous

for 35 years i had a very sturdy pfaff. i had to trade it in because they could no longer repair it. i have made sailboat cushions, fake fur blankets and numerous other projects in the last 2 years. it is a hard working machine. it is not as fancy as my old one, but in relation to the price, i got what i paid for...i use my machine alot for jean repairs, and other heavy fabrics. no problems...i use it often...love it.

Owned Pffa select 3 too long!
by: Anonymous

I have a Pfaff Select 3. I had a 1229 for 30 years and it was wonderful. This Pfaff: Leaves a longer thread from bobbin yes if I pull far enough it catches up. It unthreads the needle for seems no reason,
First stitches have loops and are a different size from later stitches, Does not like to stitch over 2 thicknesses of double narrow bias,
If it sits awhile the stitch is clumps of thread
Having the thread horizontal is troublesome. I use Gutterman thread and it still does all these things. I have never ripped out more thread in 45 years of sewing. It took 3 weeks to find the bobbins-PFAFF said dealers carried that was not the case.
My original PFAFF purchasd in 1978, had a major problem-a part that PFAFF had never go bad, it took 3 months to have it "fixed". Meantime I had no machine, paid cash, no loaner. I should have been given a new machine-but I never had another problem with it in 30 years
