Pfaff Tiptronic 6270

by Patricia Dee
(Mocksville, NC)

This is the worst investment I have ever made. I hate my Pfaff Tiptronic 6270 sewing machine and cannot get anyone to fix the basic stitching function.

Can't stitch an even line with out loops in the back. The user manual is horrible and confusing. What customer service are you talking about?

I spent so much money that I have hesitated to toss it. But the Pfaff Tiptronic 6270 has ruined my beloved sewing and quilting experience that I am forced to write off the dollars and go back to basics.

I miss my New Home - clunky, heavy, mechanical and perfectly functional!

DO NOT BUY A PFAFF. Unless you already hate sewing.

I know your pain
by: RL Schaefer

Follow your instinct and go back to the basics- I did and now am back to enjoying my passion. Too bad so many of us fell for the high dollar, new fangled computerized pieces of junk (mine was made by another company owned by the same company as Pfaff, so I know your pain 1st hand) only to find out, they can barely perform the most basic tasks, let alone all do much of the hyped up promises of all the "great" extra functions, that really won't happen. Except bring you to tears of frustration.

I picked up both a well cared Singer 201 and a mechanical Bernina 830 and couldn't be more happier. And I am making so pretty great things all with a big smile on my face!

The newer piece of junk is taking up valuable space in my sewing room- I'd donate it to someone, but see no point in frustrating that person with a useless item. One of these days I'll finally send it off with the garbage man.

Hopefully this site will be seen by people in the market for a new machine like I was 2 yrs ago, read these posts and then start hunting for a well cared for vintage machine for so much less, dollar wise and be free of all the grief that so many here have experienced with certain newer machines.

Computerized machines
by: Anonymous

Unfortunatley, if the machine is computerized, they tend to break down quite a bit. I have not heard of anyone NOT having issues with a computerized sewing machine. I have a basic, "manual" machine and it works just fine. I So wanted to get one of the newer PFAFF's but I am not spending thousands of dollars and the computer model break.

Sometimes when things have more bells and whistles it will break faster or have to many defects.

Not all computerized machines are junk!
by: Karen

I just wanted to let you know that not all computerized machines are junk. A few years ago, I wanted to upgrade to a higher end embroidery machine (I already owned a Brother Embroidery machine that I bought on line, it was also computerized but a more basic model and to this day works great).....anyway, I did a lot of research and I talked to a lot of the ladies that I have met in a Quilting Guild to find out what machines they had and how they liked them. I had learned to sew on one of the old old Singer machines that my Mom had. Then in the late 70's got a "new" machine that had a few more stitch options and used that and another one that was a gift until I got the first Brother. I am happy to say, after doing all the research and looking (and testing out the machines myself) I bought a Brother Duetta 4500D. It was very expensive (not as much as SOME of the machines) and I DID have to take lessons at the store (another thing to do-make sure the store will teach you for free how to use your new machine), I am happy to say I have had my machine for several years now and well over a million stitches on it (yes it even has a stitch counter on it) and I have not had any trouble with it.....well, I must say this, the trouble I have had is when I am having so much fun using it and run out of a certain color of thread in the middle of the night and can't finish what I am working on until the morning!! So not all computerized machines are junk. I must say, I have never owned or tried a Pfaff and I don't know anyone that does either, so maybe that says something about that particular brand. But don't let it put you off of all computerized machines, they can be a lot of fun!

My Pfaffs are still going strong!
by: GranMaMa

Having owned (and still own) Pfaffs, I have to say that I have not found a more reliable machine. I learned to sew on a treadle in the 60's....moved up to an electric (which I bought while serving in the Army.....lent it to my sister who sold it at a yard sale because she needed the money!!!!! I never lent her anything ever again!) I loved the electric singer, but when I decided it was time for a new machine, I wanted something more than what the last machine had. So bought a Pfaff with dual feed. What a dream machine! It never balked at any task I put it to. After mastering and utilizing its features, I decided I needed more features because I wanted to take my sewing to the next level. I bought a 7530.....my faithful companion for over 15 years (and STILL going strong!) I added a 7550 as a second machine because of the sewing I was doing. I needed 2 machines to streamline. I've had the 7550 over a year now, and it has not once given me any grief. I can see that both my Pfaffs are going to be lifelong friends. They get their regularly scheduled tune-ups and keep humming. Both are computerized. However, that being said, I do not think I will get any of the really, really, really souped up Pfaffs. While I like my computerized Pfaffs, I'm kind of scared that the TOO souped up ones can be a can of worms in things that could possibly go wrong. When I take one of my babies in for its check-up (always leaving one home to sew on), my sewing technician at the shop always tells me he'd be glad to take any of my machines off my hands when I'm ready to upgrade (which I am not). He always tells me that the 7500 series machines were the best Pfaff had ever made and that's why you don't see used ones being sold very often. Interestingly enough, he's a Pfaff dealer and says this inspite of the fact that he sells the super souped up Pfaffs. I stand by my Pfaffs.

Looking for a Manual for a Pfaff Tiptronic 6270
by: Anonymous

The only machine I have ever sewn on is a Pfaff I own three however I have lost the manual to this particular one. I hate that you have had problems with your machine, but I think there are lemons in every product sometimes. Anyhow if anyone knows where I might find this manual I would be very thankful.

Manual for a Pfaff Tiptronic 6270
by: pdee@seedstrategies.com

I've got it and you can have it! And any other parts you'd like. As a matter of fact, you can have the entire sewing machine if you pay for the shipping! Maybe you could use the parts or have a "resonant energy" with this particular model that I just don't have! Or like you said, maybe it's an unfortunate lemon.

Contact me directly by the email address above and let me know how we get this manual to you (and whatever else you'd like to take off my sewing table so I can get a $200 Brother and hope it works as well as my New Home machine did.

Glad someone will benefit in some way from my wasted purchase! Really!

Patricia

Love My Tiptronic 6270
by: Anonymous

I've owned the Pfaff 6270 for 13 years, and absolutely love it. I have never had a moments grief over it. I am an occasional quilter and hobby sewer, but I used the 6270 much harder during the first 10 yrs. of ownership. I have taken very good care of it - I regularly clean out lint and fuzz with a miniature vacuum attachment kit, and oil it as suggested.
This machine is electronic - not computerized.
I would buy a Pfaff product again, but am not
into top of the line products. My only minor complaint is the metric throat plate markings, but see on their web site that there are newer ones available in inches.

I love my Pfaff sewing machines!
by: Christina

I am so sorry you have had issues with your Pfaff 6270! I have the 6270 (electronic) and 6120 (mechanical) and I love them both. While I also have a Singer Featherweight and a 401A, my Pfaffs are the ones I primarily sew on. I agree with the previous reviewer in that you may have gotten a "lemon."

about your pfaff
by: Nate

I'm sorry to hear about your sewing problems. I am a Pfaff teck and am supprized to hear it's not working very well. I admit that the machine is not the best Pfaff ever made but still better that about 99% of sewing machines ever made. I'm not sure if you still have the machine or not but if you want to get it fixed and sewing great just let me know. I do a lot of mail repairs and sometimes do factory repairs for Pfaff when they get busy. That is a quality machine and I would put a warranty on my work. Please keep in mind that a sewing machine is only going to work right if it is adjusted properly. I work for a authorized Pfaff dealer and would be happy to help you. Please dont give up on Pfaff they make a great machine.

Pfaff 6270
by: Virginia Summers

I have had my Pfaff 6270 sewing machine for many years and have had too many problems with my foot pedal!!! I get into my quilting project and the pedal fails. I have replaced it three times, and that's after the motherboard was replaced twice!!

I hate this machine. The store I bought it from is no help at all. They just keep it for weeks and then say they can't make it fail. These people are supposed to be the best in Denver. I want to just cry.

Pfaff Tiptronic 6270
by: Carol Reynolds

I bought my Pfaff Tiptronic 6270 sewing machine 10/23/97. It was a lifelong dream. My grandmother was a seamstress and used one. I have had the needle-threader replaced a couple of times years ago, (at no charge to me at all.)

Lately I had to take it in because the presserfoot refused to stay down and also the plug-in for the foot petal was not tight and would not always connect when I started it. Somewhere between when I bought this product and now everything has changed. What happened to the great guarantee of all problems for the next 30? years as long as it is not due to something other than regular use?

A note was written by the mechanic suggesting I tape the plug to the machine as a replacement is expensive! I take it this will not be replaced by the company. In reading some of the comments am I to understand the company has been purchased by some other company? The original shop where I purchased the machine has gone out of business.

I would think the foot petal plug is just due to regular wear and should be covered by the warranty. I do not know where to find the information about this. It does not appear it will come from the mechanic. Please help me if you can. I love the Pfaff Tiptronic 6270 machine right up there with my dog and grandkids and I am not ready to give up the ghost just yet. Thank you.

Pfaff Tiptronic 6270
by: Joy

I bought my Pfaff Tiptronic 6270 in 1996. It still works great and I am terrible about taking it in for it's routine maintenance. Fact is I never have until March 2011 and that is because I feel guilt for not taking better care of it. It doesn't care, it still performs wonderfully.
