Selectronic 6570

by Jenny Buck
(England)

I was bought the Selectronic 6570 sewing machine for my 21st birthday - 37 years ago today!
I used it to make my wedding and bridesmaids dresses, dungarees and shirts for my two sons when they were small (they are now 31 and 27!), and all my own curtains at every house move.

While I was at home when they were small I worked from home as a dressmaker. This included turning up hems and replacing zips in jeans, and making wedding dresses, made to measure mens and ladies suits, curtaining, furniture covers - everything really.

I have recently made my daughter-in-law's wedding dress, and on the strength of that, one for her best friend too - and although I work full-time, the word is beginning to spread and people are asking me to do other things for them. The machine has never ever let me down, has been serviced only a couple of times - apart from the odd drop of oil and the customary brushing out around the bobbin case.

A local sewing machine shop told me recently that I would never be able to find a modern machine which could match it - and I can well believe it. The Selectronic 6570 is a brilliant machine and loyal workhorse - I can't imagine ever retiring it!
