Singer 6233 sewing machine

I bought the Singer 6233 machine new to replace my old Singer model 66__ and have used if for approximately 20 years for light sewing.

During this time I have replaced the bobbin case twice, only paying for the part which my husband installed. Recently the gear that drives the feed dog disintegrated.

The bill to replace the gear will be $125.00. These gears are plastic. The instructions direct the owner to not oil or grease the machine.

In my old machine the parts were metal and keeping the machine greased and oiled kept the parts from wearing out.

I am disappointed in the Singer Co.; their products do not have the quality their old machines had.

Singer 6233 - power cord falls off
by: Anonymous

I have had this machine for at least 10 years. I don't use it much because I never liked it. It has a cheap feel to it. When sewing the power cord actually falls off as it won't snap into place securely.

I do not recommend this machine, I am looking for a new one.

Singer 6233 manual
by: jennifer

Hi granniep

Hi,

I accidentially found this forum and see that you’re asking for Singer 6233 manual. But it was back dated in May. May be you already found the manual since it's few months ago.

But just in case, here’s one online and you can download it.

Singer 6233 Kenmore
by: BonnieBlue

I am very disappointed in this machine. It is cheaply made, and if I turn the knob even slightly backward, the entire bobbin becomes very entangled. I have to stop my project, remove the bobbin entirely to fix it. It is noisy & bounces around on the table. Fortunately, I have found a great used Bernina to replace this which has been worth every penny. In the future, I will steer clear of all "newer" Kenmore/Singer sewing machines.

Don't waste $ on repair
by: Anonymous

Save your repair money and look for an old Singer 401, 401a, 403, a 500, the 'Rocketeer'. These were made with all metal gears, built to last! I found a 403 at a yard sale for @3.00 (I scarfed it up so fast. The people that cleaned out 'Granny's things didn't know what they had. Their loss, my gain!! Once cleaned and oiled these babies run like tops! Yes, occasionally they must need repair, I have not had any need though. I also bought a 401a in a mahogany desk/cabinet for @150 off Craigslist. They are out there. Look around, they are worth every penny!!

Singer 6233
by: Theresa

Glad to have found a 6233 page. Wish we could share pics of our problems. Mine is the usual. Bobbin needs to go back in and no manual. It worked fine before the thread ran out! I've looked at about 20 videos, all the wrong Singers and all the wrong diagrams. Maybe some one can explain this to me. There is u-shape to the bobbin holder. Does this push straight in or where does this go? The bobbin case appears to ride high when I put it in, not allowing the thread to catch on the metal arm that turns below. Of course I have no idea how to place the bobbin in the holder and where the thread goes. Does the thread release clock wise or counter clock wise and go in to the side of the bobbing holder? One place or two ( video game me that idea but I am not sure if that's the right model of Singer)?

Tips
by: Theresa

I had many problems with the bobbin holder & brought the machine to my mother in-law who worked as an industrial seamstress in the RV industry. We had a hard time drawing up the the thread beneath the foot. None of the diagrams even in the Singer 6235 manual show this clearly but the u-shaped portion of the bobbin holder rests on top of the metal plate just beneath the cover, not underneath it. The needle is drawn up and the bobbin thread through the slot by turning the wheel towards you. She first checked the tension on some light colored fabric using dark thread. Thread on the top I believe is the top thread and thread below, from the bobbin holder. This type of machine has a pull out bobbin holder. It has two tiny screws you can adjust with an eyeglass screw driver which can alter the tension of the bobbin thread. I am still tinkering with the right adjustment but am getting closer. It does have problems feeding unless the fabric is covering the whole area beneath the foot. I sometimes here a click while sewing and sure enough the thread has passed multiple times over the bobbin and bird nested on the bottom of my fabric. I can loan my copy of of the Singer 6235 manual but you may have to wait a couple weeks till I can send it. Please email me at ofrenda517@gmail.com.

Here is a link for the manual.

http://sewingonline.co.uk/instructions/singer6233/

This is a good machine -for a 20 year old machine. Don't turn it down if someone offers you one. Small fixes worthwhile. But it is 20 years old and has plastic gears and parts - don't spend $100 fixing it.
