Singer 66

Singer 66

The dates on this posting are incorrect. From 1885 til 1908 Singer made Model 27 & 28, those two models lasted for decade and eventually with minor changes became 127 & 128.

Then in 1908, singer introduced their super singer model 66, it was simply the finest machine anyone had seen in 1908, some were elaborately decorated with Egyptian design (like the one I own), which was popular for the model 66 in the later years 1921 - 1924, also during model 66's long reign of "best selling machine" model 99 was introduced, 1911.

It was smaller and very pretty, then in 1921, power was added to the model 99. Electric machines probably would have came out sooner during 1914-1919, but the war put a hold on sewing machine advancement til 1921, when it was over..

Next out was model 15, which was so perfect, it just kept being changed over and over and eventually in 1950's reverse was added to it.. Still even today a lot of people, prefer the model 15, because of it's light weight and simple style.

There --- that's some singer history----they have books at the library that can help in research and also @ singer's website, can get you a small range of years that your serial number was manufactured, no need to guess, when and in what order singer produced there sewing machine line, it is on the BOOKs!

SINGER IS THE BEST BUY YOU"LL EVERY FIND WHEN BUYING VINTAGE!!!! there is no other brand in it's playing field..

As long as the machine your looking into buying isn't a complete rust bucket, you can repair anything on it, and the parts are so simple to find, even the owner manual's can be bought or download a reproduction of the manual on the web..

HOPE YOU LOVE SINGER SEWING MACHINES AS MUCH AS I DO, I HAVE 15 OF THEM, ALL IN MINT CONDITION FROM 1909 TO 1950, SO PRETTY!!!

hiya i have one from 1910 in a treadle table and i absolutely love it. i have modern machines also, but to relax and enjoy the most i get on the old thumper as i call it. never fails me and only needs a little clean and oil periodically. it loves thickness like quilts and hums as it sews. machines with new technology will never beat the old singers. i have been sewing for over 40 years and learned on this machine. my 8 year old niece is learning on it now and so have all the other kids in the family even the boys. it is much loved and a part of our family. enjoy yours as much as i enjoy mine. kindest regards helena

Singer 66 AE878450
by: nengmarjie

I bought this beautiful all black vintage Singer 66 from a local vacuum and sewing machine service store after I read most reviews on websites' postings about sewing machines. The store offered a lifetime warranty (I guess as long as the store still in business), so anytime I need service I can just drop by.

The only lesson in sewing I have received in my entire life was the time I bought this machine; the seller taught me some basic stuffs about this particular machine and how to operate it and he let me practiced sewing in the store. This vintage singer 66 is very user friendly, it allows me to learn through trials and errors without frustration.

Yes, I didn't take any sewing classes. I was planning to but either the price for sewing class was too high, the class location was too far, or already full for the next two months. But, my vintage singer makes my sewing experience so far to be very fun (also with the help from information posted on the internet). Even though this machine doesn't have a reverse button (I learned sewing terms from the internet, thx God for internet), it was easy to figured out how to do backstitching with this machine.

Basically, this machine allows the seamstress to explore anything with this machine and to be creative. I spent very small amount of money for a wonderful new hobby. I would recommend the Singer 66 sewing machine to anyone, especially to beginners. Plus, this machine has been proven to last this long :) I'm confident this machine won't give me a hard time; financial wise, vintage straight stitch singer is a good investment.

Note: My creations so far are pillow cases; apron will be next. :) Still need to learn about making patterns. I'm having so much fun with this machine.

Singer 66 Electric made in 1918
by: Sandy Harrison

I've not been able to pin down exactly which version of the 66 as of yet, but according to the Singer website, it was made 22 June 1918 and is an electric version. It is in beautiful condition and still sew with what appear to be all of it's original parts. A wonderful heirloom passed on to me.

Singer model 66
by: Marice Caro

I learned to sew 50 years ago on a Singer model 66 from 1929. After spending thousands of dollars on a collection of many modern sewing machines y purchased an identical Singer model 66 in the Internet. I can sew heavy fabrics like butter, Y don't need to look for may foot pedal on the floor and the noise when running is pleasant.

I added a light attachment which I love. I am in the process to add a zigzagger, I just need to know if zigzagger #161102 or #160985 will work. You can find all of these attachments in the internet. You can also find for free all manuals in the Internet. I LOVE MY 1929 SINGER!

Singer 66 electrified machine
by: M. A. Holden

My mother bought her Singer 66 sewing machine sometime in the early 1920s. She was an excellent seamstress and sewed nearly everything my sisters and I wore until we left home.

As you state, it is (and was) a very sturdy machine. I used it as a child and teenager, then again I had it in my own home after I married. I like the top bobbin loading especially. I have used other machines but nothing can beat the Singer 66. I even sewed light-weight tents with it.

I now have this Singer 66, complete with original manual, but can't keep it in my little apt., nor can I lift it as it is quite heavy and I am as old as the Singer myself.
