Singer 7037 Imperial

by Lora
(Cedar Rapids, IA)

My husband purchased the Singer 7037 Imperial sewing machine 27 years ago for me as a present. It has 13 stitches and I love it, it is truly 'dummy proof' only 4 different things you need to know if the thread is loose or something isn't quit right.

I don't use patterns, I make fun bags, valances, some curtains, not a true sewer by any means. The other day it was looping thread on the bobbin side. The Singer 7037 Imperial has automatic tension and I only go up/down with the thread to thread it through, all was fine there. Bobbin was great, only one way to load it in. I took it to a tech at one of our local sewing centers and he said basically it should be parted out since they don't make the parts any longer.

I was crushed, I love this machine, we understand each other, I don't claim to sew and it knows it, so it makes everything beautiful for me. I can't seem to get myself to buy a new one, it's just not the same.

Any suggestions on what to purchase? or if it truly can be fixed?

He said it was the tension pressure point that is not working, by the time he would special order the part and labor it would cost more than the machine is worth and it may never work the same. Honest?

My husband paid about $150 for the machine 27 years ago. I know you're saying you got your money's worth, but, I love this machine.

Call Around
by: Cathy L

I wpould advise you to call around your area or around the country and find some one that could help you. Sometimes, there is a dealer that will help you solve your problem even when your "own"
store won't. This is another example of a dealer of a dealer not careing enough about their customer base to help. Good Luck to you.

Thank you:)
by: Lora

Thank you for your comments, I will be reading the reviews on the machines. My dilema is mostly with the decision of a sewing machine or a serger given I'm only making bags and valances. However, I do add fancy stitching around the top that sets them as one of a kind in my mind.
thanks again! This has helped.

thread the bobin
by: Anonymous

My daughter as well had difficulty with this.
At the top right of the machine is where the bobin will be wound. Put the spool on as if you were going to sew, run it through the first 2 steps then bring it around to the small circular button that the thread will slip through to hold it. Check the manual for the picture that will help more than my direction. Start the thread on the bobin by hand first and then pop it on the silver knob at the top; make sure the thread is going counter clockwise on the bobin. There's a slight arrow showing this on top. Slid the bobin closer to the white wheel and start your foot pedal slowly. When all is running to the bobin speed it up, it will stop when it's full. Enjoy, I love this machine, yes the led light is worthless but the machine is very nice.

I have a working 7037 Imperial
by: Kittyvamps

Hello: I found this site trying to find out some information on my Imperial Model 7037 because I would like to sell it. I have no idea of what it is worth but being on a fixed income SSD and raising my teenage daughter plus going to an online college to get my A.S.Dergee in Medical Coding and Billing, its easy to see that I need the $$.
I do not even know if what I saying is ok on this site but if you are still interseted you can email me at kittyvamps@yahoo.com put imperial sewing in the subtitle.
Thanks for this site and I am very sorry if I have over steped my bounds on what is allowed and what is not.
Thank you all again

Someone gave this machine to me with only one bobbin and one foot, a plastic upside down u shape, I think it is for the decorative stitches, and no book. I just decided to get it out and mess around with it. It works very well and I was able to put in a jeans zipper with no trouble. This machine ran over the thickest part of the jean on the welt seam and the waistband like it was butter! I did find a zipper foot that fits it in my stash of pieces and parts. I'm not sure I am threading the bobbin right but I got it done. It is the kind that winds in the machine.I wish I had tried it out long ago. I love it!

Bobbin
by: Anonymous

I may have mistated the bobin threading in my previous post. I was actually giving instructions for the Singer 7462 model. The bobin for the 7037, is much better because it feeds right where you leave it, in the bobin plate. You thread the machine as if you were going to sew. Make sure the bobin opening is lined up with the line on the front of the plate of the bobin cradle as it lays in there. Start the machine as if you were going to sew. It's been so long since I've been able to sew with that machine, I hope I remembered that correctly for you.

Between the two models, I like that feature on the 7037, as well as the automatic threading on the 7462. It would be great if they merged those ideas and added a few more stitches!

Now I just need to know if a serger is in my future. What are the benefits to having a serger?

I bought one at a yard sale the other day, seems to be a real quality machine, it appears to having been lovingly cared for, I read here that this model is dummy proof, well, I must be worse than a dummy, I have been sewing all my life on various kinds of machines, I have even taught sewing classes,...but I cannot figure out how to make this machine go, yes, it has power, just no foot pedal, or any other means I can find to make it go....HELP !!!!
