Singer 7442 sewing machine

by Erica
(Marana, AZ)

The Singer 7442 being my first personal machine, it was a great choice for the price and for all it does. it's almost error-proof.

i remember seeing my mother use a Singer treadle-type machine, then she got into the Singer electric family, then into a Singer electronic embroidery machine...

overall, i think if and when this machine breaks beyond repair, i'll stick with Singer!

The zipper foot is not as effective as the one on our older Singer. Are there other zipper feet that can be used?

Singer 7442

I've had the Singer 7442 sewing machine for a year, and although the light is supposed to last over 100,000 hours, my machine's light died. There is NO way to FIX IT yourself.

I emailed Singer and they stated I needed to take it to a repair center. There are no centers listed for my state. The machine needs "an assembly", not just a new bulb.

It would cost me more to get this fixed than it would to buy a brand new machine, if it isn't still under warranty (I trusted Singer and didn't save the receipt.) I won't buy another Singer.

Singer 7442
by: Joan English

I have been sewing for years... on Singers. I traded in my 25 year old mechanical for the Singer 7442 machine.

The problems I have that just make me crazy are that the bobbin winds unevenly 75% of the time and then most of the time I will have to thread and re-thread the machine and take my chances that just maybe it will work! Everything gets knotted up underneath and by then I have probably put a hole in the material. It's just nuts!

I can be going along just fine on one item and then when I get to another item and put in new thread or rewind a new bobbin every thing seems to stop. Anybody ever heard of this before?
