Singer Commerical Grade

by Sue
(Fortuna, CA)

After 38 years my Singer cabinet model was retired in 2007. I immediately purchased a Singer Commercial grade machine, believing that since it was a Singer it had to be good.

What a waste of money! It has been a disaster since day one. It may have a metal casing, but interior parts are plastic. I have purchased two replacement bobbins cases because the housing can pop free and be broken by the needle. I've broken more needles in two years than in all the 38 years with the other one.

It can barely sew denim - don't even think about lightweight cottons and sheer material. The seam tension is a nightmare of constant adjustments even with similar material thickness.

It has been into the shop multiple times with the same result "There's nothing wrong with it". If there is nothing wrong with it - then is is poorly built. I've had enough, I'm buying something else - definitely not a Singer.

Singer problems
by: Pauline

I had EXACTLY the same problem with a top of the range Singer I bought many years ago. It's only by luck I still have my eyesight since the number of needles breaking and flying past my head is unbelievable!
After a while, I'd had enough and part-exchanged it for a basic Bernina which did me proud until I updated it for one with more functions, and that's still going strong. Denim - easy peezi - wonderful for turning up jeans, handles the multi layer seams with ease.
I also have a Brother Innovis 4000D embroidery machine which is ACE, but still go back to my old faithful Bernina for heavy duty sewing.
Good luck.
