Singer Creative Touch 1030

by Linda Byrum
(Elkhart, IN)

I have had the Singer Creative Touch 1030 sewing machine for 34 years. It has always been reliable. It is metal and not plastic. I am wanting to step up to a new model so I am comparing reliability, what the parts are made of and options.

Singer upgrade?
by: Anonymous

Dear Linda Byrum,

Don't bother upgrading to ANY Singer machine, as you will be disappointed! Go for a Janome Memory Craft Quilter's Companion 4900 model, as I have. It works like a charm and does it all. The Singers nowadays are just so bad. A Bernina or a Pfaff would be the best, but you do pay for these models. A Janome is affordable and is stitch perfect. My machine sews up to 7mm wide. I have had it over 2 years now and I would recommend it to anyone. You won't have any problems with it. For keen sewers, this machine has just so many attachments available for it. Like I say, it does it all.

Regards,
Anna Rovensky.

Why?
by: Anonymous

Why are you upgrading to a new machine? I'm asking because my grandma is offering me her 1030. I'm doing research on it. Thanks!

I agree

I am currently looking for a Singer Creative Touch. I, too, bought one new 34 years ago and gave it away when I bought a fancy new Viking. I miss it VERY much. It was sturdy, reliable and I never had tension issues.

nothing but issues with mine
by: Allison

I have a 1030 and I have had nothing but issues. I remember using this machine when I was younger (it's my mom's) and it worked great. But the past 5-6 years it hasn't worked properly. It was serviced about 2 years ago, but I moved and had a baby so only used it two or three times since then. I pulled it out today to use it and it's a mess.

Right now the feed dogs won't work at all, the tension is all wonky, I can't wind the bobbin, I can't select the stitch I want. Help?

Love mine!
by: Linda

My 1060 was my mothers. I used it when I learned to sew. When I got it from her 15 years ago I took it to have it cleaned and the guy that cleaned it said it was still like new and they don't make 'em like that anymore. He's right it still sews like a dream and all I do is have it cleaned every few years. My grandson & I just made teddy bears on it today. I got on line today to find a manual for it as I have misplaced mine. I would only replace it with another one (1030). I have used two or three newer singer and they have all the bells and whistles but do not sew as easily or as well.
