Singer Prelude

I have been very disappointed with the Singer Prelude sewing machine. Although it was an inexpensive model (under $100) it did claim it could sew thicker fabrics, like denim, which proved to be totally untrue.
I bought it primarily to sew patches on my cub scouts' vests and it cannot do this -- nor can it do alterations in jeans. It only performs adequately on thin materials.
Since the first day I have had trouble with the threads from the bobbin bunching up and making rats' nests on the underside of the fabric until the machine suddenly stops sewing -- leaving me to discover a mess to cut out of my fabric or disentangle from the footbed.
And no amount of adjustments to the bobbin's tension or anything else has resolved this problem. Recently I have broken several needles because of this problem. I am disgusted with the Singer Prelude machine and plan to look at another maker from now on.
