Singer Quantum XL1000

(Missouri)

I bought the Singer Quantum XL1000 sewing machine brand new. I do not like it.

I have sewn for 42 years..most of that time on a Singer Sewing Machine. I cannot recommend this machine to anyone. It will NOT sew on heavy fabric.

In order to hem..even a pair of jeans, you need a machine a lot heavier than this one. The Singer Quantum XL1000 will twist the presser foot shaft and will barely sew on denim.

I also used it for normal sewing..dressmaking. The first time the fabric was thick, it again twisted the presser foot and also broke the throat plate where the needle goes in. I still cannot find a source for a new throat plate. I've asked everywhere, and also have searched online to no avail.

Actually at the moment, I am piecing quilts using my old Brother SL6562 machine that I bought at Walmart. It will sew circles around the Quantum XL1000!! I am in the market for a new machine, and at this stage of the game, I am NOT interested in another Singer Machine.

However, I know very little about a lot of other machines. I need help..and facts on different machines and their reliability.

Singer Quantum XL-1000
by: D Shank

I purchased my Singer Quantum XL-1000 sewing machine from a reputable dealer who had stopped carrying the Singer line.

My machine was a floor model; but was still covered by the warranty. However, from the first day I got it home it has given me nothing but trouble. The embroidery function does not work 1/2 the time, the LCD screen has gone out twice and is now out of alignment; which I am dealing with. The last fleece quilt that I sewed I had to use embroidery thread because no other thread would work. What a waste...

I need it to stay working through the holidays and then I'll take it in and get it repaired and trade it in on another brand. Will not purchase another Singer. By the way, Singer does not even rate this model on their web site... should tell you something.

Singer..has been good to me!
by: J. Fuller

I purchased my Singer Quantum in 1999, and the dealer sold it to me at cost. I have completed many, many hours of sewing and monogram. The Singer dealers in the area (Arlington, Texas) always found a way to repair my machine, even if they had to send it back to the factory. I've relocated to Georgia, and the dealers here don't seem interested in repairing, just selling. I recently sent it to Tennessee for repair after my screen went out. I'm not sure it can be repaired, but I must say that I have gotten my monies worth from this machine.

Singer XL1000
by: Northern Girl

Thank you for your comments - I was thinking I was going nuts with the problems with my Singer XL1000. I was able to get the plate replaced when I saw the hairline break in it. With my final project (a baby quilt) I had to force the machine to work and ended up breaking 2 dozen needles - just to get the quilt done. Now I'm trying to see if I can sell it. Too bad the Singer Company has lost their product quality.

Needing a throat plate XL 1000
by: Anonymous

I own a Quantum XL 1000 Singer and purchased it for 2500.00 brand new. It is 7 years old and recently I started having problems. I took it to repair shop and in return they tell me my machine is no good. I asked why and the reply was I need a throat plate but Singer doesn't make them any more. I couldn't believe it and I am pretty upset over it. So if anyone knows where I can get one, please let me know. Email jp4636@aol.com

Good sewing maching, ebroidry software sucked NEW
by: Anonymous

I've had Singer xl 1000 for about 8 or 10 years now. As a sewing machine it has been wonderful. I've sewn thin and thick fabric with no problems. It's kept its stiches very well and automatically always adjusted the tension right too. I've been very impressed with it as a sewing machine.

As an embroidery machine, how ever, its lacked. The build in monograms and designs are great. But if you want to take your own picture and turn it into a design, the software for your computer that came with the Singer XL 1000 truly sucked. Never got it working right. manual practially non existant. It was like a version v1.0 of their software and it acted like it - just horrible.

I recently was given a Singer Futura 4 to work with - the software for making your own designs from bit maps is now much, much better! It doesn't take a lot of knowlesge to import your bitmap and pick the stitch types, and then upload the design to the machine, and stitck it.
