Singer Touch Tronic 2010 and Brother XL-5500

by Karen
(Michigan)

I have always had a Singer. My first was an old Treadle Machine.

I learned to sew on it and after 3 years My parents purchased a new Singer for me. I had that machine for about 15 years and wore the tension disks out on it.

My husband then bought me my Singer Touch Tronic 2010. He paid $815 for it. I sew all the time. Always have.

Last night my feed dogs froze. I have been in tears and hope that it can be fixed. Doesn't matter what it costs, I LOVE that machine. It is so easy to use and with the performance record of 0 problems in 27 years I think it is a winner.

I am using a Brother XL-5500 in the interim. It runs fine but is not designed well. The free arm is set too far back making it hard to control the fabric.

The stitches are hard to figure out and even harder to see so I have to give a lot of thought to what I need to change to. This machine is almost new.

I bought it a year ago from an older woman who purchased it to replace her Singer. She couldn't get used to it and after a week went back to her old machine. I too am waiting for my old Singer Touch Tronic 2010 sewing machine.

:( Mine Too
by: Sew Eternal

I was using my Singer Touch Tronic 2010 last night and the feed dogs disappeared. I wasn't abusing the machine but was doing a decorative (leaf) stitch and they dropped out and disappeared. The manual simply says to take it to a repairman. :( I've used a small, rinky-dink, Kenmore that I could always take apart and fix myself so not being able to get in that machine to see what's happened is frustrating. I'll re-post after I get a repair estimate for mine.

May God bless you soon,

by: Anonymous

I am looking for a cabinet for my Singer Touch Tronic which I love. Is there a specific cabinet that I need to be looking for? Any help is greatly appreciated.

May not be worth the cost
by: karen/Michigan

My machine was repaired. Then sent back again immediately for tension problems. I am using it but shopping around for a new machine. I am not sure why but the 2010 just doesn't work the same as before the feed dogs disappeared. I spent $210 to fix it but now think I should have spent that money on a new one. And I LOVE my 2010.

Singer 2010 Touchtronic Problems
by: Janine

I can't see how old these comments are, but I have a touchtronic bought new that has been nothing but problems with the tension. I have finally replaced it with a Bernina 440. I don't know what to do with my touchtronic. Local repair won't touch it. I have a great sewing cabinet too. Any ideas? Anyone want items?

2010 touchtronic cabinet
by: Janine

I have a great cabinet for my 2010 I would part with. True piece of furniture. My 2010 is and has always been unreliable and I have replaced it with a Bernina 440. It appears some have been happy with theirs.

TouchTronic 2010
by: karen/Michigan

Are we talking about the same machine? My TouchTronic 2010 is almost 28 years old. I would have bought a new one in a New York second if I could have found a new one available. Possibly they have a new version of the old one. My old one has been wonderful as I have said previously. Sorry to see others not having such a wonderful experience. I will check out the Bernina as a possible replacement.
