Singer XL6000

by Lynda Criswell
(Indian Valley, Al)

I did not want to give up my old machine when I bought a new Singer XL6000. Now, after 4 years, I find I have never looked back once.

This is my dream machine. A machine that threads itself from the spool through the needle?

A machine that stops sewing when it the bobbin is empty and fills its own bobbin? What is left for me to do? THE CREATIVE PART that I love most!

Stitch selections are instant, but that is a common feature. Smooth, fast sewing is expected in today's electronic machines. Ergonomically correct sewing is expected.

But the ease of day-to-day sewing is astonishing. The invisible zipper foot is a huge improvement over the commonly available one. The blind hem foot actually works!

Filling a bobbin from the top sewing thread for machine sewing is so practical you wonder why one would not. Each foot works smoothly and correctly. The buttonhole selection is large and accurate.

In embroidery function of the Singer XL6000, the preparation is minimal. Centering a design is obvious. Snap-on hoops are obvious. Continuous lace is obvious. Multiple placement of designs is obvious. Saving designs is obvious.

I get to do all the fun parts: creating, choosing colors, planning. The Singer XL6000 sewing machine does all the tedious boring parts: changing threads, filling bobbins, keeping up with the details.

I have owned all the newer, more expensive, no-longer-carried Singer sewing machines. They are the best for the price and performance. Can't be beat.

But there is a learning curve. I never had a lesson and managed. Love the endless bobbin and thread exchanger. You have to use the right threads and manual for understanding the messages you receive on the machine screen.

Beautiful embroidery and multi-hooping. The down side is they are no longer carried and they were bought out by Pfaff and they won't be making the higher end models anymore. Too bad...
