Traditional Singer 2250

by Keith
(San Bernardino Ca)

I bought the Singer 2250 sewing machine for $79.00 on sale at Target. My mother suggested the Singer as she has used Singer all her life and has sewn since she was about 7 she is 87.

I bought a camper shell and needed curtains, bought cheap black sheets made a pattern and sewed one curtain showed my mom for review she was impressed as she always hoped her daughters would sew not her son.

I have since sewed about about 12 wool / fleece / lightweight 100% polyester bottoms eight shirts along with a neck-wrap cap all on this bottom line Singer.

The Singer 2250 has been a great machine for me with no problems other then user error. I did however take the first machine I bought back after a couple of weeks as something jammed probably a bent needle.

Now after eights months or so I may have to upgrade to a more powerful machine as I am getting into sewing thicker projects. Although this low end machine did sew through industrial strength sticky back velco when doing my curtains.

The glue on the needles proved to be tedious and very time consuming but the 2250 endured. No this machine is not sale either, I need it.

I am looking at the CG590 and looking at the reviews and many say the quality of Singer is not there, it has with the Traditional 2250 as far as I am concerned. Keith

Singer Tradition 2250
by: Anonymous

I was taught how to sew on my Grandmother's old Singer Sewing machine, made in 1924. Since then I've used almost every brand out there, and in the process endured countless hours of frustrations and four letter words. So, I saw this machine and the price was good and I thought....why not? And....I love it. It's quiet, consistent and very sturdy. I've sewn over fifty sets of polar fleece hats and scarves as well as countless purses and detailed, beautiful quilts. The only I wish I had was a few more stitches. This machine has only bird-nested on me a few times and that was because I wasn't paying enough attention and threaded the bobbin in backwards. I do suggest though, getting yourself some metal bobbins and recycling the plastic ones this machine comes with, they are so inferior in every way. I love my machine and even though it's a so-called bottom line machine...all you need is some creativity, fabric and this machine to make anything you want.

Singer quality
by: Anonymous

I too learned how to sew many years ago on a singer and just loved them, however, as an adult who has gotten into much more and varied sewing, when I was looking to upgrade my machine, I found the Singers that I tried out and looked at to not be of the same quality that they had been years ago. I was told by someone in the Industry that Singer has merged with another company and now the Singer sewing machines just were not the same quality they used to be. I bought a Brother Duetta and I just LOVE it, it is a combination sewing/embroidery/quilting machine and is not by any means an inexpensive machine. By the way, this is my second Brother. Prior to investing the money into this one, I bought a less expensive combination embroidery and sewing machine, the Brother PE450D. It had a lot of stitches and offered a 4 x 4 inch embroidery feild. I have had absolutely no problems with that one either, I just wanted to have more options in the sizes of designs that I embroider. I have still kept the smaller Brother and still use it. I also own a Husqvarna Mega Quilter, this machine is strictly a straight stitch quilting machine. I would consider it to be a high end machine, and it is absolutely a work horse. It will sew through anything! I bought it to use on my medium size Quilting frame because it has a larger throat plate and is built for the harder work load then the standard home sewing machines. I still own my older Singer sewing machine, it was a gift to me (and was a special purchase from Costco) from about 1992. It to works great, and I just bought a Singer I just bought a Singer serger that works great as well. I think a lot of it depends on the machine and your knowledge of machines. I have also found that you should buy your product from a store that will offer you a lot of help (as I needed it with my Brother Duetta). Most of the problems I have had in the past were due primarily to operator error! Once I actually read the operators manuel and learned the proper ways to use the machine, I just sailed through!!
