Viking 1+, Designer 1, Des SE, Diamond

by Shirley
(Michigan)

I have owned a Viking 1+ bought in 1997, A Designer 1 bought in 1993, Designer SE bought in 1997, and Designer Diamond bought in 2008. The Viking 1+ I just gave to my 25 year old granddaughter (Works beautiful). The other three machines worked beautiful.

I still have the Designer SE and the Diamond. They are both working wonderful and have never had any trouble with either of them. Friends that own Vikings and have had a problem with them, the company has resolved their issues in a timely manner and to the customers satisfaction.

The independent dealers who sell Viking sewing machines can do anything they want and some of them can lose customers very fast. I deal with a company owned store and believe me, they are terrific. I would never own any other brand of sewing machine.

Viking, Designer1, and Designer SE
by: Anonymous

hi, I have had a Rose, 1 Plus, Designer, Designer SE,,,,and traded up, then got a commercial embroidery machine. I promised myself when I bought the commercial machine, I would sale my Designer SE...I sold her three months ago...and that was the worst than I believe I have done. They are the most dependable and easy to learn machine. I will be looking for another Designer SE as a sewing machine and back up. I did have a problem with the Designer when they first came out, but the company made everything alright. They stand behind there product. May sure you have a wonderful dealer, cause I sure did...

Viking Diamond and SEL
by: Jane Alford

I love both machines. The Viking Diamond is so large I only use it at home. The SEL is perfect to carry to friends homes for a sew day. Can't say enough good things about both machines.

You have to find a good dealer for service. I bought them at one dealer and he used super glue on my Diamond to repair a part. Not good. It also didn't sew right after it was serviced. I took it to another dealer and paid to have it reserviced. Worth every penny I paid to have my machine fixed.

My Viking SEL is may favorite. Viking customer service is not good to work with. They need to revamp their staff. Not people friendly. I also have a Viking serger that I love.

Designer is fabulous
by: Chana

I bought a Designer 1 10 years ago. I use it a lot for sewing, embroidering and quilting and wouldn't trade it for anything. I've had no problems with it at all - in 10 years. It's easy to use and many of the features are fantastic. No problems with tension, ever!

Des SE LE problems w contrast setting
by: bhillant

When viewing the screen, suddenly, it is too dim to read, unless the Contrast setting is at -20. What could be going wrong?

Viking Designer Diamond
by: Anonymous

I have owned a Designer 1 (I call it the best HV Machine) and sold it to purchase a Designer SE Limited Edition. I kept my machine for 3 years and the only problem I had was the bobbin sensor would not function when the thread ran out. I had this machine serviced and the sensor worked fine.

I just traded this machine in on the Viking Designer Diamond and what a let down. I've only had this machine a few days and it is the worst machine I have ever owned. The machine is noisy, the stitching is not top quality, the tension is not working properly and causes the material to grab.

I called my dealer and am taking it in next week and a service person is suppose to check it. I am going to check out the embroidery functions prior to taking the machine in and will write an update on this. I did not know the machine was now made in China, had I known this I would have kept my Designer SE Limited. The boxes the machine is packed in are misleading, I didn't know it was made in China until I checked the serial number under the machine.

Viking #1
by: Sherri

I invested in this machine 18 or 19 years ago and it has thrived through many years of heavy use. The Viking #1 makes beautiful stitches, the tension is always perfect, and it has made teaching my children, including two boys, much easier with its options for slower speed and fabric advisor to suggest stitches based on fabric type.

Drawbacks: too heavy to enjoy lugging to class, difficult to start bobbin winding, electronics no longer allow fabric advisor to choose medium weight woven (but now I have them all memorized). It is truly a gem of a machine.
