Viking Designer SE LE

I bought my Viking Designer SE LE sewing machine new in November of 2007. In December of 2008, the machine stopped moving the needle right to left.

The dealer said it was the machine head and that it would be replaced. Finally almost two months later, they decided to replace the machine entirely with a new one.

My dealer was extremely respnsive when it was broke... even gave me a loaner machine. With all the negative above, I am sure you will think I hate this machine. On the contrary, I absolutely love it.

I have sewn all my life. With this machine, I was able to sit down from day one and do what I wanted to do with the machine. The more I use the machine, the more I learn. It will do anything.

I recommend the Viking Designer SE LE machine highly. I am sure any sewing machine you buy or anything you buy in general, can go bad.

My idea of a good machine is not only loving the sewing machine, but feeling comfortable with your dealer and having the company stand behind their equipment means a lot to me.

So the story here isn't that the machine broke... the great story here is that the dealer and the home company stood behind their product. I don't think any of us should think everything should be perfect and won't break.

Viking Designer SE
by: Catherine

I learned to sew on the little Singer Featherweight and it was a wonderful little machine. But that was 1958!! Fast forward to the mid-70s....the time I first sewed on a Viking. It was a birthday gift from my husband and it was love at first stitch! Needless to say, I fell in love.

However, in the late 80s I took a short "detour" to another major brand. It was a good machine but not of the Viking caliber and we never "connected". I stuck it out for a while and then I discovered the Viking Designer I. WHAT a knockout sewing machine! The first time I stitched on this machine in the sewing shop I felt like I'd come home!

The Designer SE came along a short time after I bought the Designer I. I just HAD to try it out and once I did I was hooked. My dealer gave me such a deep discount for my very "young" D-I that I wrote a check on the spot and carried my "baby" home.

This machine is a wonder and I am SO sold on it as well as the Viking brand that I can't imagine using any other sewing machine--ever. I'll probably be looking for another "newbie" in the next few years, but till then, I'll sew and piece quilts and make toys on my wonderful, sturdy, highly functional, beautiful and pleasing Designer SE!!

Viking Designer SE
by: Gloria

I was a Viking owner for many years and will still agree they have a decent machine. My last one, Viking Designer SE, just did not provide the consistent quality with embroidery that I wanted and needed for gifts and clothing. Besides it was very noisy and clangy. My husband, who fully supports my hobby became annoyed with the noise and the belly-aching coming from the sewing area.

We researched other machines for a couple of years before I decided on my first Bernina. So here's the story. Our pastor had four children who were learning to sew. They enjoyed coming to my house because I would let them sew on the Viking, but not the Bernina.

One day I let the oldest, a boy of 14, use the Bernina. After a few minutes of intensity on his face I asked him if he was okay and what he thought about that sewing machine. He looked up at me with big eyes and a wide smile and said, "Wow! this just runs like a fine piece of machinery." This gave my husband the right to say, "I told you so".

I use the Viking as a spare and when children come to sew. When I want to do serious stitching and hear the hummmmmmm, I use the Berninas.

Viking SE Limited
by: Shelba

I embroidery on the Viking SE Limited machine all the time. I have had no major problems. I have never had it back to the shop for any repair,(Thanks you God) I have been a viking owner since 1974 when my family bought me one for Christmas. I still have that machine which two of my daughter-in laws have and are using.

I have been exploring and thinking about a diamond. After reading these remarks I won't be buying one. I also have a babylock BMP which is their six needle professional embroidery machine, I may just trade it in on the ten needle machine and forget about any Viking for the future, Will keep my SE though.
