Viking Platinum 750

by Janet
(Scotland )

I bought the Viking Platinum 750 sewing machine secondhand from a good dealer. It is a rolls royce of sewing machines.

Very easy to use and learn. It sews quietly and I like the fix function which finishes off the stitches and beginning or end of sewing.

I also like the fact that you can use the stop button to do just one stitch eg when quilting in different areas of sewing. The needle can be set to stop up or down.

Happy with the 750
by: Anonymous

I have had my Platinum 750 for three years and have had no problems with it. I want to purchase a new machine because I am a quilter and need a machine with a longer are. I have been looking at the Sapphire 875 and just decided today before I went to buy it to look up the reviews and this was the first site I opened, boy what a eye opener. I think I will wait and look at some other options. I really appreciate the reviews and the might have saved me a lot of trouble. What is a good machine to do large quilting on????

Viking Sapphire 750
by: Renee

I bought my Viking Sapphire 750 sewing machine for Thanksgiving 2009 because my 1975 Viking finally gave up.

I have had had nothing but problems with it when I free motion with it. It breaks needles. It breaks thread constantly. The thread tension starts out ok on swatch and starts eye lashing on bottom when I get going on quilt. Have picked out so many stitches.

It has missed stitches, but is now really not missing a stith but so many that at times it is 1/4 inch before it catches. The Viking Sapphire 750 breaks needles when it comes to the end of the bobbin thread. I took it in twice immediately after I bought it for breaking needles and thread. I spent my vacation traveling 4 times to the dealer I bought it from which is about 45 minutes from my house. It is back in the shop again.

Every time I am told it is the needle I am using; my method of sewing (50 years experience - 34 on a Viking 871, with no problems); my batting, the thread I'm using (even when I use a brand they say is ok).

Oh, by the way, every other thing it does except free-motion it does exceptionally well. I am not ready to give up yet, all I want is for it to be repaired.
