Which one to buy, Brother Innov-is 1250 or 1500?

by MrsD
(Oxfordshire)

Hi,

I have never used a machine before and I fancy starting. Around this time of year I always say to my husband that I want a sewing machine, this year he has said that he will get me one for Christmas and I don't want my husband to spend more than £2k on it. I have just come from the sewing shop and the Brother Innov-is 1250 and 1500 stuck out to me. What do you think ladies and gentlemen? Or am I barking up the wrong brand tree and should consider others?

I want to make goods using leather/textiles and embroidery, using my own designs on various types of fabrics.

hiya, have a good look around and read the reviews first before you commit to buy. make sure it will sew leather as some don't and to try would only damage the machine beyond repair. also read the reviews that we write (we tell the truth, if it's rubbish we say so). take your time and go to some demonstrations like craft fares and quilt fares. if you have never sewn sort out some classes as it is not as easy as it looks and there is loads to learn.. it will all take time but it is a very enjoyable hobby, i have been doing it for 40 odd years and i love it. good luck and kind regards helena

Yes, I think I have become the Cathrine Tate character 'I can do that!' without actually knowing the basics. I will have a look around. Thank you.

hiya happy to help. if i can help with anything else when you have your machine e me on this site. oh i neglected to mention that you don't want to be rushing into the really technically loaded machines like pfaff multi, embroidery and sewing machine as these have to be worked up to. loads of experience is needed for these. start small and work your way up is always the best. good luck and very kind regards helena

So, I'm considering the 1250 and the 1500, too. I have been sewing for 50 years. What do you all say?

I would not buy another Brother
by: Anonymous

Hi,

I have a brother 1500 innovisD I bought it in March 2008 I had it for about TWO weeks with nothing but problems. the sewing store tried to blame Me this was not my first sewing machine i learned to sew in junior high and graduated in 1977 any way after going back and forth many times i finally got them to keep it and they discoverd the thread was not catching properly and the machine was defective huh gee not Me.

The store gave me a new one with in a month it sounded like mice were inside when sewing. Took it back again they replced the motor.

The first time i used it to embroidery it broke the needle nicking the bobbin case causing the need to replace the bobbin case $36.00 u.s. then i was scared to use it it sat for many months i recently started to embroider again after doing about six designs it is broken again took it to a different dealer for repair as it is no longer undr warranty. the repair man said it is the latching mechagnism if he could get just that part as it is connected to other parts the part would be around $10.00 the labor is $100.00. this should not happen when you have sewn so few designs.

I WOULD NOT BUY ANOTHER BROTHER PRODUCT.

When I asked this dealer what he would give me for a trade he said he does NOT want the machine.

Brother Innovis 1250D
by: TS

Great "concept" .... terrible performance of the Brother Innovis 1250D for 1600.00. Can't believe that when you use a memory stick that the image looks just like a blob!!!!

The color chart has to be manually altered to match the correct colors. When I called the dealer in Tucson, AZ they stated that because I bought a "very inexpensive" machine, that I could not get what I wanted. They acted like "What? you want to seeeeee what your image looks like????"

I am very computer literate and I am soooo disappointed with the Brother Innovis 1250D sewing machine! If you think about the graphics of a cell phone, ipod or something like that...which costs 50.00 to 350.00 and then you look at the technology of this machine it will repulse you. Before you buy...look at the images from a memory stick....be sure your machine will view it!

Also if you try to use the expanded hoop with the built in fonts, such as a logo on the back of a shirt, you CAN NOT do it in one hooping...you must move the large hoop and if your second word has more letters than the first word...you can not size the second word the same as the first word.... such as XXXXX XXX One word will be larger than the other...it looks so cheezy!

IF YOU WANT TO MAKE THEM "CORRECT" YOU HAVE TO PURCHASE SEPERATE SOFTWARE WITH THE MINIMUM PRICE OF 380.00 IN ADDITION! We went back to screenprinting and wasted 1600.00, as the Brother dealer stated "that they DO NOT REFUND YOUR MONEY IN TUCSON"...We even took the machine back within 24 hours of purchase!

They then told me my only alternative was to take a used machine that took a floppy drive...a viking...so I could see the picture. OR put ONE IMAGE PER STICK!!! (SO YOU KNOW WHAT THE IMAGE IS SUPPOSED TO BE) LOL!!! THIS CRACKS ME UP!!! So 1600.00 and I got an offer of an 8 year old used machine BUT I WOULD GET A ONE YR WARRANTY! I DONT EVEN OWN A COMPUTER WITH A FLOPPY DRIVE!!!!

Brother needs to fix this problem or take these black and white small displays that can't display a FILE THAT THEY ADVERTISE THE MACHINE READS... pes or dst file and trash them. They market the memory stick as a selling point to get you to buy the machine but only the 4,000 and up show the files larger than a BLOB...

They should only sell high end instead of selling junk if they don't want to fix it! I will never buy a brother again!!!!
