White 1740 Quilter's machine

I can't get an even stippling stitch because it is impossible to adjust the bobbin tension with the White 1740 Quilter's machine ( bobbin tension is too loose).

Also, the top tension adjustment seems almost to be a dummy dial that is not adjusting anything.

Secondly, to drop the feed dogs is very inconvenient. The button for that is up under the extension table and very hard to get to.

Thirdly, I've had the White 1740 Quilter's machine for about a year I guess, and the control buttons such as "stop", "slow", and "needle down" have stopped working altogether.

Also, the carrying case immediately failed to close; I have to duct-tape it closed!

I will not be purchasing any more White machines.

Your review might as well have been written by me! I have been using this White 1740 machine for a couple of years (not often) and have already found my reverse button to be broken. I didn't even know how to drop the feed dogs. My case won't go together and the table won't stand straight anymore. I love that it comes with tons of presser feet but all-in-all this is alot of money to spend on a machine that feels like a basic level machine. The only thing I'd miss if I traded this for a basic machine is the "table".

I loved everything about the WHITE 1740 machine, most of all the cover that became a desk top to rest on while you sewed. It was great! Only thing I needed was the BLANKET stitch which it did NOT have. I would love to have the 1740 with the blanket stitch. Do they have such a machine???

Don't get this machine. Awful. Agree w/ review #1. Case is a mess. Tension is AWFUL. Reverse is worst I've ever used. Will also never buy another White machine. Grrrrr!
