White Deluxe Super Stretch Zig Zag-Model 1620

White Model 1620
I bought my first and only White 1620 machine in 1992 and it's still going strong! It's never been in a repair shop!
I love the fact that it is made of metal and not all plastic, with metal insides. The machine being 17.5 years old, the 3 parts on the outside that are made of plastic have yellowed with time, but the metal housing outside is still the original cream color.
I love this machine, it has a free arm, tool storage, 7 or so, built in stitches, 4 step button hole funtion, zig zag stitches, several including stretch ones, has twin needles, and performs other functions.
I've sewn curtains and draperies in all of the homes I've owned on this machine, clothing, comforters, pillow shams, dust ruffles, towel decorations, doll clothes and blankets, a wool coat, on and on.
I bought it to replace a Necchi, which I had more trouble with than fun days of sewing. It was in the shop being repaired and I never took it home, I traded for the White.
The only down side of the White model 1620, and other White models I don't like is the feed dog jamming thread, or fabric. All of which is probably from some error of mine, being not enough fabric under the presser foot to start sewing, or perhaps feeding or pulling the fabic as I've sewed. I am leaning towards the drop in bobbin style where you can see how much thread is left on the bobbin.
For 17 years I feel I've really gotten my value out of this machine (that's $5.00 cost per year!) I paid around $100.00 back then.
I now want to update with more stitch selections, auto threader. I wish White would do away with the old bobbin case housing below the plate. They are cumbersome and time consuming in some ways, plus you cannot see your remaining thread left on the bobbin. I would like another White which is easy to use, lots of features and consistent stitches and nice on the pocket book!
